Hi.
I have a P170HM with 4x2GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 1600 (KHX1600C9S3K2) it support 800mhz but its just running at 667mhz and BIOS doesnt have memory settings.
I used Memset on my desktop to change memory settings, but it doesnt support notebooks.
Anyone have idea how to solve this?

The P170HM will only support 1600Mhz when in two slots, it wont support that speed when you have it in all 4 slots. At least thats the case with the JEDEC type RAM you have. To do all 4 slots it has to be Intel XMP, not JEDEC.
-
Well, even using just 2 slots i'm not able to get 1600. Because it needs to be set in BIOS which is not possible on P170HM.
And I didn't find any software that support it too :/
Edit: Kingston website says its Intel XMP. And CPU-Z too. XMP-1334 and XMP-1600.
XMP TIMING PARAMETERS:
• JEDEC: DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9 @1.5V (standard)
• XMP Profile #1: DDR3-1333 CL7-7-7-20 @1.5V
• XMP Profile #2: DDR3-1600 CL9-9-9-27 @1.5V -
Does this happen too on EM systems? (P150EM to be more specific)
-
well theres ur problem: in order for the ram to run at 1600 u would need ddr3-1600 plug and play (PnP) ram sticks and NOT xmp sticks like yours. xmp basically gives u the info that the sticks provide a guaranteed overclock up until that given xmp frequency, whereas PnP sticks just run at those clocks at stock. in general, HM laptops are able to run up to 1866mhz on PnP and those can be OCed to even higher clocks. 2133 PnP sticks wont work anymore tho
heres what u can do:
- give back the xmp sticks and switch to PnP
- download Intel XTU 2.1 (newer versions probably wont work but ure welcome to try) and use that to manually OC ur sticks to 1600 mhz or higher, as long as theyre stable
- buy thaiphoon burner for 20 bucks and use that to change the xmp profiles to PnP. that would basically be a permanent change, whereas the XTU only provides a temporary OC as far as i know. there should be a function to set those clocks at boot-up tho
cheers!

Looks like it is Intel XMP. As jaybee83 mentioned you have to overclock it with Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to get it up to 1600Mhz http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=19683
You should get 1600Mhz in all four slots. -
what?? NO WAY!
damn, thats the first time i see 2133 sticks work in a clevo! Are those stock 2133 sticks or did u OC 1866 modules to 2166+ clocks?
In any way, that is pretty awesome indeedI myself ordered a 2960XM CPU and its already waiting for me at the post office. Cant wait to OC the crap out of that baby, especially seeing that sweet 8.34 score in cinebench
but i highly doubt ill reach 5.9 Ghz in Turbo Boost....
holy crap....
whats the highest stable OC you could get out of 4 cores?
sorry for the off-topic btw!
edit: checked that serial number btw, those seem to be Samsung DDR3-1600 sticks OCed to 2133 right? thats of course possible, especially with 1866 sticks. I was just saying that 2133 PnP sticks wouldnt work on Clevo machines afaik, at least no according to mythlogic and some NBR members that have tried... -
yep, got one of those as well
with 80W short and 70W long, 32s. should be fine for my needs tho
-
Please excuse my bad english -
Intel XTU just works with BIOS version 1.00.05+ right?
I have a EUROCOM P170HM with BIOS 1.00.02TEU ECB 1.00.05 and already asked EUROCOM for an update, but they are a little lazy on support.
Here on forum we have a Standard Clevo BIOS 1.01.10 (latest), do you know if I can flash it to my notebook? Also, does it have memory settings on this latest BIOS? -
but thanks for the info, ill contact prema about that right away
-
I am jealous of your HM custom BIOS.

I'm not sure why because the P150EM can use the P170EM bios and unlock XTU control with all these options.
-
welcome back hulawafu. how did u get ur butt banned, anyway?
as meaker said, u can do the same crossflashin on the em series. but yeah, one would still need a modded bios with raised tdp limits since that function is apparently not really working with xtu even tho it says it does? according to prema at least...

Eurocom have just sent me their BIOS update.
http://downloads.eurocom.com/support/drivers/models/P170hm/eurobios/p170HM_Bios10.zip
How can I see what version is this BIOS?
There are differrent files from standard CLEVO BIOS, it came with:
AFUDOS.exe ---- 27/05/2010
p170hm10 -------- 13/07/2012
teu.10 -------------- 01/09/2011
TEU.BAT --------- 02/09/2011
Another thing, they sent me just the BIOS not the EC. But messing around with the link I found this:
Index of /support/drivers/models/P170hm
I think its better I download the EC and flash it first right?
And should I use the BIOS from CLEVO folder or EUROBIOS ? -
I flashed EC to .09 and BIOS to 1.01.10 TEU (Eurocom version)
I dont know if its normal, but no new options was added to BIOS Setup. (I had 1.00.02 TEU)
Then I installed Intel XTU 2.1, it takes almost 1min to load, but load successfully.
So I set Memory mult to 16x and all timmings to XMP recommended, restarted the system.
But what I see on HWinfo is this, which one is right?
-
hm, it looks like the clock change didnt stick...
-
you know this is a small world! When i bought my msi i signed up for the first time on this forum to start tweeking my computer. i just put an order in from afghanistan for a SAGER NP9570 from a guy named "HOSS" that works at XoticPC im surfin this site again to look for memory speed upgrade for that unit and i come across the same guy Crazy small world keep it up guys.
