Hey guys, forum newbie here looking for feedback on Sager laptops. I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger on an NP9150 because of the $100 off and free upgrade to a GTX 675M. I'm looking for a relatively top-end laptop, and this model is about the only one I can find that has a decent GPU, Blu-ray player, AND only a 15.6" screen. I don't know much about the Sager brand, and was wondering if anyone would like to share experiences, good or bad. Also, for current owners, how good is Sager's built-in cooling? I plan on using a cooling pad anyway, but do these things tend to get too hot?

    THANKS!!! :hi2:

You're just getting no love getting bounced all over the place.

I'll leave the experiences to others but basically Sagers rock. Probably the answer you were expecting posting this on a forum based around Sager laptops, but they are just solidly built. They have excellent cooling, some users say that they run hot, but due to them having a lot of power inside, that's pretty normal and not something to really concern yourself. I have many customers running system temps in the 70's consistently. You can also look at getting IC Diamond in the build to upgrade the thermal compound, doing so will help keep your system cooler if you're concerned about it.

Yeah, bouncity bouncy and scolded also! Some welcome to a new forum.

My main concern with Sager is their quality. I've been doing some digging on Google and found some issues with the build quality of the actual cases (specifically, problems with the hinges), and others getting BSOD due to physical problems with RAM modules. I'm trying to find out how endemic or isolated these problems are.

finished work now so i can reply :)

i cant say much about sager but clevo is a different matter and i wont buy anything else now.
its my second £2000/$3200 laptop and they are built to last. they are great as they are user upgradable later down the line compared to some companys that even void your warranty if you take the base plate off. also they are more plain compared to their rival christmas tree and in my mind much more professional looking and also dont scream out come and steal me.
ive seen good and bad feedback about sager and a lot recommend buying from an american reseller instead > http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/656776-ask-resellers-questions-reseller-thread.html

hopefully you will get some sager owners reply soon

So, do you mean it's better to buy a Sager through a reseller instead of directly through Sager?

    I'll look into Clevo...

Just to clarify, Sager machines are built on Clevo parts. What he was referring to is there are different manufacturers of Clevo machines that can lend somewhat to different experiences. The side that I'm familiar with is Sager and we pump out a lot of them.

Some of the reasons to go to a reseller as opposed to directly to Sager is the level of service provided. You typically get a much more personal response to your order and easier to get a hold of to deal with any order changes or issues with the order. You also sometimes get options to customize that they don't offer directly.

I see... I'm looking at XoticPC's web site now, and it does look like there are more tweaking options than directly from Sager, although the build I'm interested in prices out exactly the same as through Sager.

Does XoticPC essentially drop-ship these to customers if they do not order the extra retailer tweaks?

We actually are a direct reseller. All point of contact will be through us but the build is still done by Sager. If you purchase an option that they don't offer (normally labeled XPC service) then it'll be shipped to our facility in Nebraska to be done. That's also why we are the same price.

Do you know how long the current Sager promotion is running ($100 off and free upgrade to 675M)?

Unfortunately we do not typically know when those end until they do in fact end.

if you let us know what country you're shipping to, we can offer you more specific recommendations on what manufacturers/builders/resellers to consider.

I have been using laptops for about 15 years or so many brands. The one before my current Sager was an Asus G73, which I love, but had to pass on to the family. So about a year and a half ago I picked up my current Sager and I think it blows away the Asus. Very easy to work on, swapping out the HDD for an SSD and put the HDD in a caddy. Runs very cool still. Fast, a beast for work ( much photo editing) and certainly the best computer I have owned. In the future, if the Sager employee can't get me a great deal (I saved a bundle), I would buy through a reseller. Watch these forums and you can see there a several that really work hard to earn your business. The beauty is anything you need to replace, is easily accessible. I have torn mine down to the bare case. Geat design and as I said, mine is very cool, still no need to repaste, just clean out every month or two, to be safe.

I bought my NP9170 through Sager and they have been absolutely phenomenal. I had an issue with the keyboard being unresponsive on some keys. They shipped me another and let me replace it for a held payment since I could not ship the laptop back where I was at. No issues and everything worked out perfectly. They have been a pleasure to work with and the machine has been perfect.

Yes shop around to get the best price. I think in terms of service, all the Sager reseller/builders have superb reputation for customer service, and whether Sager does the repair or the builder, all are very quick and dedicated to making sure you are happy with the results. The only company I would not recommend is Malibal.

For North America this is a good list of excellent Sager reseller and builders I'd suggest you speaking with to get the machine you want, at the price and service you desire.

    LPC-Digital
    GenTechPC
    Power Notebooks
    Mythlogic
    XoticPC
    Pro-Star

Those are the ones I know of and ones who are very active on NBR and have helped so many customers and forum members with any issue they may have. They are stellar and you won't get better service from Alienware, Dell, HP, or elsewhere. Not even close.

Most of them are active on these forums, you can look for them on here and send them messages about discounts and such. They are all pretty good as far as service goes, and what you want will dictate who you should go with.

Myth has a bit more customization, but they are also a bit more expensive depending. Larry from LPC is a great guy who has fantastic customer service. I went with XoticPC because they had a deal going on I could not pass up.

All of them were on my list to go with and they all gave me great replies and information when I was looking for my laptop. Figure out what you want and go with the best deal, most of the U.S. resellers/builders are known for their customer service.

I got my D901C from them was excellent but the Blu Ray ODD they sold me for it was not compatible with the Chipset so I got a Regular DVD from them as well which failed.... so I just contaced my OEM Distrubutor and solved that issue by buying one not from them(Blu Ray Drive worked in other laptops and in desktops with adapter)

Otherwise the Laptop was great overall strangly after warranty expired they were no longer willing to sell me parts for it .... more aless every time I attempted they told me they never sell parts... which is odd cause they did while I was under warranty. Luckily I was able to outsource my parts elsewhere eventually

A source told me (I will not reveal who) that a new sale will be beginning Monday November 19th, so people who are interested in the 675M should probably order now while people not planning on upgrading to a 675M may want to hold off and see what the new promotion offers.

Just to say a few words on Clevos - they are amazing machines.

I owned a P150HM for 14 months - not a single problem with it. Strong chassis, strong hardware. Easy to maintain & clean. Awesome laptop.
Right now I own a W370ET. It blows away both Asus G75 and Lenovo Y580. Amazing cooling. Amazing price. Amazing screen, features, clean looks.

Give Clevo a try and you won't be going back to other brands. Custom-configs are something worth trying before buying stuff from OEM brands.

Important thing to consider when choosing resellers/manufacturers is the amount of testing and QA/QC procedures, since Sager's ... let's just say they can use significant improvement.

Particularly if you purchase the laptop without OS and/or live out of US since cost of shipping back in case of problems can be significant.

Please substantiate that Sager's QA/QC needs significant improvement. If you can't, then you're just spreading fud. And not evidence from 2010, but evidence from 2012. Keep in mind how many notebooks Sager and their resellers sell. If you can only come up with 3, well, then you're spreading fud.

There are enough posts on this and other forums describing issues right out of the box, among other mine here.

When i contacted them asking for details of OS and driver version used for testing, i got the reply "install all drivers in proper order, if that doesn't work we'll have to take a look"(?!?!?)

Even if you consider the number of units they ship, and that sometimes mistakes happen, based on their lack of info on test setup and results for my laptop the only conclusion I can make is that it wasn't tested at all.

If a company makes and tests something, and a week later cannot provide test results it's QA/QC issue, plain and simple.

So, regardless how unlikely, it's possible that people will receive improperly tested units from sager, and if RMAing the thing is an issue it wouldn't hurt to look for alternatives, like i'm doing now.
