    Hi guys (and gals?),

Well the headline basically says it all, went from a T8300, to an X9000, and can't get over a X14 clock. Even CrystalCPUID can't get 'round it.

Of course there is nothing in the bios either...

Rock says they 'are unwilling to support that mod in any way', and won't provide me with a bios, nor do they list ANY bios downloads on their web****e.

I realise its just a Clevo M570RU, but I'm not too confient flashing just anything on this, I believe there are a few revisions to this platform.

So can anyone help me reach 3.4GHz?

    Regards.

There are a number of people here with the same notebook and have posted BIOS updates here.

Look for Sager 5793 bios updates on this forum.

    Here are the latest updates:

    KBC/EC firmware 1.00.10
    BIOS 1.00.11

    Follow this guide IN ORDER

    Unzip both zip files
Use the guide in my sig to create a bootable usb stick
Copy the files to a known directory on the stick
Boot into dos and run update.bat
reboot into dos and run refresh.bat
    reboot into windows

    IN THAT ORDER

KBC firmware is for the keyboard controller... thats how the Fn keys get programmed to do whatever.

    UPDATE:

Well I know people look at these forums for years, so I thought I'd post my results.

Went with updating from the files listed, via the usb drive.

USB stick booted first time, installed the first of the two programs, and I got a bios siren / alarm at the end of it. It did say it was complete, and 'press any key to restart', but it did nothing but make its terrible noise.

    Cold shut it down.

Rebooted, to usb again, no problem.

Ran the second of the programs to finish the bios update, and that went well too. Well sort of - it resets your bios settings, so no AHCI was selected, so my first attempt at booting was a blue screen. I suggest anybody following this press F2 to enter the bios, and configure their settings as necessary.

    WPrime is now 26 seconds.

    X9000 @ 3.2GHz, XP Pro x64, 8700M GT, OCZ high perf RAM (4GB), WD Scorpio Black 320GB 16MB-cache drive, Intel 5300N wireless.

Thanks again, and good luck to anybody else reading this.

Forgive me for idiotically asking, but how much can one overclock a locked [email protected] on this laptop? I heard its about 2.8ghz max, but are there any chance to push it higher?

You'll just have to try it and see, every chip is different

Quicklite: With a locked multiplier, I assume you are overclocking via an increased FSB speed, via 'Set FSB' etc.

My experience (as that was how I overclocked with my T8300) has shown me that 2.7GHz whilst gaming, and 2.8GHz whilst doing other things was fine. I think that the graphics card was being overclocked at the same time the bus speed was raised, and it was crashing it out at 2.8GHz.

The first time I tried 2.9GHz, I was running CAS4 RAM - and I instantly blew a 2GB module. So obviously too much RAM overclocking there.

I replaced with CAS5 RAM, and I was able to see 2.9GHz, but I didn't trust it, and of course it would crash during gaming.

So I'd say, run with CAS5 RAM (most DDR2 laptop memory is anyway), and try your luck. But don't just try to get the best WPrime score, actually see if you can get through a 3DMark06 session, and some decent gaming time before you consider your new overclock to be stable.

As it took ages to get the memory replaced....
