    Hey people!

So I am in the market for a high end gaming laptop. The budget is 2700GBP or 3600EURO.

I currently have my eyes set on this :

    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/msi-...hk-nvidia-gtx-980-8gb-gddr5-ga-lt-229-ms.html

What kinda puts me off is the CPU as I'd really like the 6700K (planning on doing high end PS2 emulation so cpu is very important.)

So naturally I can only find that in custom laptops. I plan on using mysn.co.uk but feel free to recommend and express opinions.

    Thank you :)

That was the only issue with them :/ they applied so bad the thermal paste that gpu was always near 95c i told it was not normal i opened the heatsink to see it was paste so wrong...like just an half of the core, after the job it was back to 70-80 dont remember.. But ask them if they have it to paste for u for free.

Get your own thermal paste... Their's will be junk.. Gelid GC Extreme is as good as ICD and easier to apply and doesn't scratch heatsink etc..

You may be able to contact them directly to see if they offer an improved thermal paste, otherwise they do have reps that check this forum and may be able to chime in.

Get the a SLI GTX980Ms.. I know SLI can be a pain but bit of a waste to go with a single GTX 980.. Otherwise if you go the single GPU route, get the P775DM...

If your budget is limited, I suggest going with CEG.. Are you UK or Germany based? CEG's prices are much better but it anything goes wrong, RMA will take 1-2 weeks as it goes to the German Clevo repair centre...

SSD wise, I suggest getting your own off eBay/amazon.. I don't know how much storage you need but I personally have a 256GB SM951 NVMe SSD+ 960 GB Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD+ 1TB 7200rpm HGST 7K1000 HDD..

If I end up going through with this I'd like to be with mysn, they seem like decent people with service and all, do you know if they work with you a bit on the price? Maybe match it a bit here and there?

No they will not price match... They'll claim the extra is for better service warranty.. Reach out to @ceg-extreme.. They were the ones that sold me the barebones even before mysn could give me a quote for it.. They had to check with head office before giving me a quote .. Well it's up to you.. At the end of the day, even mysn's repairs are carried out in Germany but in house so you pay more..

CEG's service is great but you have to chase them a bit, which I always do so I was happy..

Hmm I read mixed things about CEG that's why I'm a bit skeptical.. Did you get the SLI 980M's? If so, are you encountering compatibility issues with games and stuff?

I have a P771ZM.. Your better off asking about this in the owners lounge however people have said everything is fine.. Main thing is that you can sell the 980Ms to upgrade however the 980 won't have a market out there..

That is basically the only point I can find valid. If you remove the fact that you're doing it for benchmarks, will the single gtx 980 affect my performance gaming that much?

Can confirm that it's proper DHL service!

Price matching, well we can't guarantee that but especially the UK office will always make a customer an offer. The law is slightly different here and quite a few companies start with only a 1 year parts warranty. There are also often hidden differences, for example some companies use very cheap TN panels or IPS panels with 45% NTSC gamut which can save £50+ but look rubbish!

Our .de website will rarely price match because other companies in Germany don't offer the same level or warranty or service that we do. We carry out all repairs in house and always use DHL fully insured courier services. Other companies don't always offer shipping coverage in their warranty or maybe theirs is 1 years parts as standard.

Regarding thermal paste, you will always see a couple of people have issues - but from our internal records the RMA rate or high thermal level rate due to thermal paste is so low it really doesn't register. However, in a couple of weeks time XMG UK customers should be able to choose other paste options through the website - we appreciate that customers want this option :)

clevocenter.com seems a good one based in Portugal and good if you live in Spain or somewhere close. Didn't buy anything yet but I've talked with their online chat support, they answer almost instantly.

    1. http://www.clevo.com.tw/group_newsdetail.asp?id=194&lang=en - this misleads so many people here in Portugal, people think they´re dealing directly with Clevo.
    2. If they go bust there´s is no one to fulfill the warranties \ they get their barebones from "non official" sources. On the other hand, Inphtech (another portuguese shop) deals directly with Clevo which implies all sorts of conditions that prevent customers getting screwed in the event of bankruptcy.
    3. Rude communications, either at their store and through their chat: they patronize their clients, use "agressive" pseudo marketing talk to get clients to pay for more than they need, if you ask prices for a specific configuration they almost always reply that they can only give you a price when you´re ready to buy. I´d share the transcript of a late 2014 chat talk i had with them but it´s in portuguese. I shared it on a Clevo dedicated thread on a portuguese tech forum and the reaction was unanimous - "that´s no way to treat a potential customer", "surreal", etc..
    4. They remind me (and other users the same portuguese tech forum ) of a similar store on the same city whose communications with clients were equally rude and arrogant. This previous store closed doors a few years ago, leaving some clients without their laptops that were being repaired, and some clients with unfulfilled orders and no money back.. Sometime later clevocenter opened....their modus operandi is too similar...
    5. Restrictive policy regarding maintenance and upgrades performed by the user
    6. If you have to rma a laptop you have to deliver it exactly as you purchased it: you can´t buy a laptop from them without an hdd/sdd, so let´s suppose you don´t like their offerings and/or you can get a ssd/hdd for a lower price elsewhere (which you certainly can btw). Since you´re obliged to buy the laptop with at least one drive, you plan on getting the cheapest one (a 500gb hdd) and sell it to recover some money so you can get your prefered drive elsewhere - well, you can´t do it, they´ll give you a hard time about rma´ing the laptop if it´s not exactly as when you purchased it.

Sure, they do have a shiny website (Inphtech does not for the time being, although acessible they´re still building and tuning it) and low prices, and there´s people who bought their Clevo there that have no complaints, but there´s also a lot of people who have....me included.

Cant go wrong with XMG/Mysn. ;)

Thanks for the lengthy and informational post. I was going to use bank transfer since I had no other options, but now I've decided that I should either do it through PayPal (for buyer protection) or just purchase a Clevo from another website.

You get what you pay for. Or in some cases, you don't get what you don't pay for - that happened when I went with CEG.

You don't pay just for the laptop, you also pay for the service and customer support. Xmg is definitely worth the perceived extra you have to pay.
