Due to some issues I need a laptop by Thursday. I wanted to order a Clevo but I am sure I cannot get it in time.

I am ok with ordering a laptop which last me 12 months then ordering the new Clevo models this time next year.

What would you suggest? I am looking at Asus or MSI or if I can find a clevo.

I need this for development and games so I need a 2630 or higher and a 560M or higher.

I need to make sure this laptop can play SWTOR and Skyrim without any problems.

Unless it's in-stock now (not custom built like most Clevo's) and you pay for overnight shipping, I don't think you'll get it by Thursday. Most retailers had today at 11am or midnight last night as the final cutoff for standard shipping by Christmas, let alone Thursday.

It sounds like you'll probably be at the mercy of whatever is available at the store, like an Asus G-series.

SWTOR has been awesome though. Already two level 20+ characters from early access :)

According to posts I've seen from Malibal and Xotic, they've got stock now, but I'd imagine that the only way to be sure that you'll get by 12/22 is calling them up beforehand and seeing if a 1-day build is even possible. One-day shipping will probably run you about $120. You could get a pre-built or used Clevo on Ebay (I saw a P170HM I7-2820 580m for $2K yesterday) and see if the seller would be will to overnight or 2 day ship it.

Edit: Here's the one I saw yesterday. Seems like a pretty nice deal if you don't mind the pre-configured options.

My only concern in the Asus is the 560M NVIDIA where as I can get the ATI 6990 in the Clevo.

I was looking at the ASUS Republic of Gamers G74SX-AH71 17.3 Its $1,423 with a 50$ Gift card and I can use my prime and get it here Wednesday for only $3.99.

The drawback is it only has the 560M in it and the 2630. I just wondering if the ATI 6990 is going to be worth the extra time and money it would cost. I know the GPU benchmarks are almost 2.3 times more then the 560M. If someone has compared the two it would be great to hear from them.

Looking at my schedule I might be ok getting it by next week but I would need to move some stuff around.

Oh, and if cost is a concern Paypal's Bill Me Later promotion is 6 months no interest on purchases over $99.

I have plenty of cash on hand thats not really the issue with cost.

I always try and justify the cost of upgrades. For example is the 2760 worth the 18% price increase for 15% performance improvement.

This wont be a long term laptop. I have my eyes on the new P270WM but I just cant wait anymore.

I would go and configure a P150HM/NB8150 with different resellers and give them a call asking to get the laptop by specific date (I see it is possible if they have all the components in the stock), it will cost you a bit more for overnight shipping and rush build.

If I am a reseller I wont miss a customer with cash ready in hand, so I expect they can build it for you quickly.

Other option would searching on Amazon and Ebay Asus or MSI.

You are dealing with a product that is pretty much always custom-built. Even if it's entirely in-stock, any reseller here is going to have to have a tech assemble the components into the chassis and do some form of burn-in test to make sure it works - all after you place your order and before it can ship. It's not like HP, IBM or others who have pre-assembled units sitting on shelves waiting to rush-ship.

I do not see any justification to declare that it is impossible to get the laptop by next week!

Most of resellers offer rush build which let's say would take 2 days on average, then overnight shipping from UPS can bring the laptop to you next day.

So logically it is possible that to get the laptop within 4-5 days from the order day. The best ideal case would be 1 business day build and 1 business day shipping which is again possible since resellers offer 1-3 business days build and UPS offers next day delivery.

Anyways I am pretty optimistic and if I was in this situation I was definitely going to give it a serious try.

I doubt this kind of rushing would be possible. Three days might be more plausible, but that is probably the best case. Still, even if you could get it in two days, you would have to pay a pretty penny to make it happen. It is better to save that money for upgrades on your build, and just getting another laptop to last you a while. As a matter of fact, you can probably find a decent refurbished laptop for around the price it would cost you for rushing and one day shipping.
