So I've confirm that my amd 6990m is dead I'll try to reflow it but eventually it'll burn out again so I'm thinking of just buying a new one for the next time that it burns out or if the reflow doesn't work. I don't care too much about getting a better GPU since the games I play already ran smoothly on the 6990m(wow,dota2,l4d2,skyrim, assassins creed) .So as I've been thinking of possibly getting a gtx485m or something cheaper. Would I need to change the vbios or something for the card to work? If so, how would I do that? Also feel free to give me any other suggestions as to which GPU I should get. My budget is $250. As long as the gpu can run the games without it stuttering too badly I'll be satisfied. And hopefully it doesn't have a history of it burning out like the 6990m does.

The 560M and 580M should be plug and play as long as you get a Clevo GPU. You may also need a new heatsink, I cant quite remember on this model so if you get a chance to get a kit the includes that do pick it up.

Yes otherwise the card does not report to the EC correctly and the system will shut itself off.

I've got a Mythlogic Pollux (P157SM) with a GTX 770M and was thinking of upgrading to a 780M. The machine is less than a year old. Can anybody advise if the 770M woul work with mariox238's system?

Anyone here knows if the gtx 6xx series works?(650\670\675\660) Saw a few on eBay that were decently price. Would I have to change the vbios? Also gtx 460\470/480/485
I've read that the 7xx series is not compatible with the older clevo laptops like the HMx series so I guess that's out of the question.

The 680m will work with a small mod. You won't get much of the rest of 6xxm series on a Clevo mxm card. You could also look for a 7970m but that will require a different vbios.

    A 770M system should accept a 780M so long as it's a clevo card.

Would any of the gtx 4xx series work? And what about the gtx 570m?
EDIT: so i found a decently price gtx 460m. I have to download the driver for it to work right? http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/download.asp
Do i have to do anything else besides this?
