Well I’m transferring to a school were laptops are used in most classes, so its time for me to purchase one. The school offers a Lenovo T61p with software for 2000. I am willing to go a couple hundred over two grand, and the NP5793 is looking pretty nice. I want it too be more of a workstation laptop so whatever I get I am opting for an FX1600m video card. Aside from being somewhat heavy, how does this machine handle constant movement. I know it’s a laptop, but would a college environment lead it to an early demise? I’m not in a dorm, so I’m not worried about liquids, but if I’m dropping over 2k on a laptop I would hope it would last. Oh, I just saw a couple posts about the 15.4” M860TU. In the PCMW preorder they do not offer the FX1600m, but some euro brand they did. Any ideas as to if they will offer this card?

I can't speak to what configurations will be offered with the M860TU, but I'll say this:

Motion itself is not going to damage this notebook any more than any other notebook, but the college environment is more than what YOU make of it. The college environment is filled with a LOT of variables, from the roommate with a soda/beer/water that's too close to your computer to the idiot who, when asked to hand you your bookbag, throws it, instead.

As long as you take precautions to prevent this kind of abuse, it should be just fine, but you can only take so many precautions.

The 5793 is a well built laptop that is really durable. As long as you treat a laptop good it should last you for quite some time. If you are wanting to protect your investment you can check out http://www.safeware.com/ where you can purchase an insurance that will cover things like accidental damage, drops, theft, liquid spills, etc....

As for the 15.4” M860TU unfortunately there's not any confirmed information on the specs or what will be offered or won't be offered. If your school session starts in August, you should still have plenty of time to decide which notebook to buy and what fits your budget the most. :)

The free 4gb upgrade right now is pretty nice, but I wouldn't have a problem buying another 2gb stick at a later time. I know the battery life isn't the greatest, so I'm trying to see how often I'll have access to an electrical outlet. The 5.5 hour battery time of the lenovo is deffinately nice, but I think the sager would be a much more solid machine. Peformance wise the sager will beat the lenovo in the video card department, and with 1gb of extra ram. Thanks for the insurance link.

Your welcome, I would also recommend viewing the most up to date post for the 5793 here. Right now would be a very good time to buy the Sager np5793!
