OK, I definitely like the NP5797 more in terms of specs. The only problem is I am a bit scared that it may be too big.
I like that it is more future proof and has better cooling, but the NP6882 has two inches less or so and I feel that may make a huge difference.
I'm going to university with the laptop, but I won't be using it in class (more of a pen and paper person). I would take it to the library and stuff, but I'm worried the 17 inch would restrict it from leaving my desk.
So I was wondering if any owners of the NP5797, or any other 17 inch laptop, felt like this prior to buying and had any regrets down the road.

Well, it depends on how much you're going to bring this to the library or anywhere else. How much will you use this carrying it around?
I wouldn't say whether one is more "future-proof." They're both upgradable. -
I had a 12 inch Toshiba on campus, great portability and a solid performer, but it was too small for day to day useage. I hooked it up to a 20 inch monitor when in the dorm though.
Now I always thought 15.4" was the perfect medium, but I decided I wanted something bigger since I'm no longer in college. I've got the 17 inch now, and I wouldn't turn back. It has a decent footprint, but I'm so used to it that anything smaller now seems out of place. Your main concern should be weight, imo, but even the NP8662 is chunky at 7+ pounds.
17" is a pretty common chassis, so you shouldn't feel like you standout in a dumb way having a "massive" laptop. Most people are just jealous they didn't choose the same
And in addition to that, you've got dedicated CPU and GPU intake fans instead of one doing all the work, which eliminates some fan noise and gives a better thermal budget for the 280M and perhaps a QX9300. I feel as though it should have had RAID, but I'm otherwise happy with what the M570ETU chassis has to offer. -

At this point and time, both the machines are no longer upgradeable, rather replaceable. Both notebooks are at the end of line in terms of the CPU and GPU, thus leaving only the RAM and the hard drive freedom to upgrade.

Yes, there are new CPU's and GPU's coming out in the next season, but not for these two laptops.
The W870CU and W860CU will pick up where the M570TU and M860TU left off. -
The only regret I had with my m570tu was that I went with the dual-core rather than the Quad-core. I tote my laptop around quite a bit and i don't have a problem with it. If you are going to be transporting it alot, I would get a good laptop backpack, as the shoulder bag it comes with tends to be a little flimsy, and I wouldn't trust it with a 2000+ dollar laptop in it.
Need help deciding... (NP8662 or NP5797)
