    Welcome to the forum!

The Clevo is going to have a more powerful processor in it, with the desktop processor. That might not be that important for gaming now, but might be useful in the future. It also has more options for storage space, and can have more ram added in to it. It also has the upgradable graphics card, and also the 8gb version (which might be a little better for 4k gaming if you do that). The 4k screen is a nice option on either one, in case you want to do 4k or go lower to 1080 as you had mentioned.

The Alienware is a little lighter if you are concerned with weight. It should still be able to play games well, just like the Clevo. And Alienware does have the nice on-site warranty option that you generally won't see with other companies.

But overall, the Clevo is going to generally be more powerful and give more options for upgrades.

To echo what Pat said they are going to be fairly similar for performance but the desktop processor will be a little more powerful in the clevo so that's where i would lean towards. The more powerful processor along with the future upgradeability on it i think outweighs the alienware however the warranty is something to consider. You will want an 8gb card if you go with a 4k screen as it requires more vram to process those high quality images, even with that 4k gaming with a 980m can be difficult to produce decent frame rates so some of the AAA titles you would have to go down to 1080p to have a quality experience.
