Hi, I'd like to first start off by saying that I just received this laptop and I absolutely love it. The only problem I'm having is trying to use the mic on my headphones while skyping. I have searched everywhere and can't seem to find a solution to this problem. I installed the Realtek HD Audio Manager and I tried to set up my headphones to use the mic feature. Every time I plug it in (I've tested on all the slots), the laptop mic would be the only one to work. My headphones aren't the problem because I have already tested them on an old laptop. Is there any solution to this problem? Thanks!

Make sure it's set as your default device. Right click the icon in the tray and click recoding devices. Test out which one is from the headset and set it as default

There is only one "microphone" option, and that belongs to the laptop mic. I have also tried separating the input jacks from the Realtek manager program, but with no success. A second "microphone" does appear after splitting the jacks, but when I insert the headphones in all the jacks, nothing happens (sound isn't even picked up on my headphones).

I think the headphone jack/socket is strictly output/playback and the microphone jack/socket is strictly input/recording. Even though your headset has a jack plug with conductors for audio in and audio out, the sockets are respective to one or the other, if I'm not mistaken - e.g., they are not combo jacks.

You would either need an adapter or a USB headset, as USB is bi-directional and can process the audio in and out.

Ah I see, thank you very much for this information. I just bought an adapter and it works wonders now. Much appreciated!

Try setting 2.1 in the audio controls, this can change jack operation.
