I got a P170EM from Origin PC about 4 years ago with a 7970m. The 7970m dead out about 1.5 years before, but I didn't replace it at that moment.
Experience part:
I tried to contact Origin PC last Christmas and they don't have anymore 7970m in stock. I asked them if I can get a 970m or 980m since I heard it works on P170EM. And here is the response:
Physically, none of the cards you mentioned will fit properly inside the laptop, more so none of them have VBIOS ready to accept them as they are not supposed to be compatible whatsoever.
After checking online again, I do think 970m (at least some of them) should fit for a P170EM.(If I was wrong, please let me know. Thank you.)
I checked Eurocom, which would charge more than $100 for heat sink and results in likely $800 in total. That is a price way higher than my expectation.
After that I checked with MYTHLOGIC, who asked for $400 for 970+heat sink. The online rep I chatted with at that time is very nice. Finally I decided to have a try with them.
The order was placed by paying an invoice through paypal on Jan. 19th, 2016. After that I chat with them online on Feb 1st and Feb 19th and found the card is not ready yet. I send an email to the sales directly on March 8th, as the online rep said the sales would follow up with me (although I never get contacted after payment). I am still waiting for a response(more than 150hrs after sending my email), since I am considering to purchase a battery and a CPU fan, and would like to have it before May to avoid changing shipping address.
I was told these special order can take a few weeks, so I was ready for waiting 12 weeks when I placed the order. But I'm really worried about it due to the difficulty on contacting with their sales, who are actually working on this. Additionally, the purchase protection from paypal will expire on July 18, 2016, and I don't want to risk myself.
Question:
In case that I want to cancel the order with MYTHLOGIC, what should I do? Since this is an order through paypal, should contact them through paypal?
Would you recommend some other companies where I can buy a 970M for my P170EM?
Thank you for you patience.
First time on posting. Hope it doesn't violate any rules here.
Update:
Contacted Mythlogic on March 15th, 2016 by online chatting.
Here is the response:
"We finally got word that it is on it's way here. We will get it to as soon as we can."
I also asked when it might be shipped, the answer is "Should be within the next few days".
Update:
Got the card on April 13th, 2016. Have it installed on April 17th, with a good performance.

To answer your first question.....if it were me and they were not replying through email or the chat window on their site, I'd call them directly. Here is their contact info:

On your GPU, the 970M and 980M will work but needs additional work that someone else will have to explain. I've read here where others have done it but evidently it needs a bios upload.
In my case, I installed the 680M that, along with the kit, just bolted it in, ran the NVidia driver, and it worked great.
Are you close to Idaho?

But I still would like to know if there is a way to cancel the order, just in case it is closer to the expiration day of paypal's purchase protection.
I also heard it might need some bios update, and also need to work with the driver a little bit. But I think I can handle that. I have considered 680M, but it seems to be hard to get one now.
I am in Texas, which is pretty far away -

I've dealt with Mythlogic for parts through PayPal. You can cancel with PayPal if the vendor hasn't claimed the funds yet.
Can you use a 7970M?
Bobby -
BTW, how long it took for you to get parts from them before?
7970m does work on my laptop. But I am not very willing to get one again. Mostly due to the heat it creates, but also the better performance from 970m. -

I got my 680M from them about a week after paying their invoice by PayPal.
I understand about the 7970M. I pulled that out of my P170EM about a month after I got it because the driver fiasco back then and put the 680M in.
I was reading the board the past few minutes. It appears the 970M and 980M works with a bios and possibly vbios update. Someone else will help you with that.
Sorry about the issues with Mythlogic parts....you have 6 weeks more patience than I would
Take care.
Bobby -
i will try to contact them again and hope a happy end is ahead.
Thanks again. Have a nice evening. -
But I have to say I am really curious about why the card takes that much of time to get -

The cards are expensive so they had to order it from a supplier most likely, MXM cards are fairly rare and made in batches so they may have needed to wait on one.
