Hi guys, I just saw the thread on Throttlestop here. Out of curiosity's sake, do we need to use Throttlestop to unleash the full potential of Clevo CPUs?
Thanks!

Depending on your laptop, I'd say a Prema based BIOS would be more beneficial. In addition, ThrottleStop seems to help as well. Intel XTU would also work, but from what I can gather others would feel this is a last resort.

yes, even with the Prema BIOS and after setting all cores to 4.4 GHz and giving it enough Turbo Power Max and enough Power Limit, during stress tests and CPU benchmarks, it doesn't throttle, but if you run a GPU test like Fire Strike or a game, the CPU speed drops to 4.0 GHz at times, thus, Throttle Stop is always good to have as well -
I would love to use Prema's BIOS, but unfortunately there is none for the NP8170 yet...
Nice, I will find some time to tweak this, but my CPU is a i7-2630QM; isn't 4.4 GHz a bit high for it? -

Ah I see, silly me
I think I will take this easy by first keeping it at constantly its rated speed first before doing anything else...Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

Nothing wrong with that.
It's not like it isn't capable at stock settings.

You'll always want the right software if you want to overclock/tweak the system, it's not required for stock of course.

Hahaha true, if I am already having problems at stock settings, I think having throttling is the least of my problems...
What other programs would be the right one? I tried Intel XTU but all options are greyed out.
Need to Use Throttlestop on Clevo CPUs?
