Would you rather have a bluray player (keeping in mind it would be used) now with a 128gb samsung 830

Or give up the blu ray player, the free laptop bag for another 17ish dollar credit and spoon out another $40ish for a 256gb samsung 830?

I'm asking the woman what she would rather end up with sine ultimately it will be hers when I get mine in a few months - but I have a feeling I'll get a response that its up to me and what I think is best. lol

It will come down to how much hard drive space you'll need. If 128GB will be enough and the blu ray will be used that's the best way. If you plan on installing alot of programs and games on there go with the 256GB and you can get an external blu ray drive.
Which model are you looking at and what do you plan on doing on the computer? If you dont plan on doing high end gaming consider the NP6350 which has two hard drive bays and an optical bay. Then you can go smaller 128GB SSD, 500/750GB HDD, and Blu Ray.

The laptop will be used for Gaming and CAD for the next several months, then occasional gaming, microsoft office, my girls online classes, web browsing, etc.

Already ordered the 9150, I was just trying to figure out if I should swap out for a bigger drive. I am going to network a storage drive on my network at home - so that should take care of most of my storage needs. If I really find an issue, I think I'll just throw an mSATA in there for the OS and such, then the SSD can hold games, programs, etc. All storage on the network drive.

She said she really wants the bluray - so I guess this decision has been made! :)

Sounds like you have it figured out. Don't do the mSATA as you mentioned though as that port is a SATA II, so it will actually be slower the then SATA III SSD.

^agree about the sata II, i almost went down that route.

if you leave it upto her indoors then she will swap it for a wardrobe of shoes anyday.

the samsungs are the best read/write but as they dont do a 512gb i went for the crucial M4 512gb which has a slower write speed (its still ruddy fast though compared to a normal 7200)

for me i would go for space anyday but i dont use a bluray so im biased.
in 2 months ive filled up 125gb of data, mainly games but it shows how fast space fills up.

all i can say is you will love the 9150 :D

SATA II really isn't that slow guys. We've all been spoiled. For general use you won't notice a lick of difference between SATA II and SATA III. Only sequential transfers between drives will you notice, and that happens how often?

I agree SATA II is still way faster then a regular HDD and many times you really wont notice the difference, but whey do II when you can do III :)

Agreed, but for some things I think it would still work just fine with little if any difference being noticed.

I've never been so impatient waiting for a new toy in my life. Then again most toys I've ever bought has been nearly instant if not within a couple day satisfaction. I dont know how much longer I can last!

I'm just saying that mSATA is a good option for boot drive and use a spinner for your storage and games considering the P150EM only has a single hdd slot. 128GB mSATA Crucial M4 for $100 at Crucial.com or Amazon.com

Nice to have a built in Blu-Ray but you can buy a cheap external drive on ebay for £20. I have been using it for 6 months and it still runs perfectly. :)
