Hey guys, I'm considering a laptop, and although a Sager is a little bit more then I want to spend... I'm considering the 5720 since it looks very cool and many people have said it's a great computer. Also it sounds like it's performance is great.

However, that being said after browsing 6 pages of this forum I've also heard a lot of people mention things breaking and requiring being RMA'd or breaking down after a year.

Honestly, I want to hear the bad things people have to say about a Sager, specificly the 5720 as well as any positive info. I'm also fully aware that every single device out there will have issues, as it's a computer manufactured by modern science and bound to be imperfect.

Namely I dont want to buy something thats going to prove to be a problem, especially a year down the road, warranty or not.

Well, I've heard that the 5720 suffers from a soundcard issue. When you listen through headphones, a lot of people get a soft hissing sound when there's nothing playing. Some say it's really annoying, others say it isnt so bad. *Shrug*

Most people fix it by geting a soundcard you can pop into one of the slots in the laptop, the Audigy2 ZX I think it was.

I've only heard of issues with the sound card like DrSNAFU mentioned as well as the bluetooth messing up, but that's it.

My 5320 is the 15.4" version of the 5720; they share a common case design and port placement, etc. Mine is basically a shrunken down version.

The only real complaint I have is the headphone jack - it is subpar, because as noted, there's a hissing sound and it is annoying. I plan to get an external soundcard at some point in time.

Chaz, for the hissing sound from the headphone port... I researched that, I found a few solutions that people have used for it. Do all of these steps, and then one by one undo the steps to find which component is causing the hissing:

    Turn off IR port
Mute SPDIF jack in volume control
Mute CD volume, blue in, and PC beep in volume control

ONE, if not all of those, should stop the headphone hissing.

Thanks, yeah I had the IR port done (that needs to be disabled via the BIOS) because it gets rid of the chirping, and the CD I had muted. Muting the blue in and PC Beep helped marginally. Well, a little is better than nothing.

All I'm waiting for is a new laptop sound card to come out (maybe an X-Fi, if they ever do), and that should solve all my problems. ;)

honestly, the most of a problem ive ever had with my 5720 was a touchpad problem.

I was using my computer down in a cold dry basement (bad Idea) and was statically charged. while using the touchpad, it shocked me and started working sparatically. I thought i had permanently damaged it and needed it serviced, but after 2 weeks went by the touchpad started working right again and i havent had a problem with it since.

Other than that, the computer has been solid. I dont know bout the headphone jack thing, I've used it a few times, but not since i heard about that problem, and i didnt notice anything. It tends to get really warm while playing Battlefield 2 at max settings, but thats without a chill mat, and thats really expected from a high performance laptop.

there are some things that may grind your gears about this laptop. The usb ports are installed upside down, and tend to be a little wobbly. but other then that, I think the 5720 is perfect.

I think the USB ports are installed upside-down on all the Clevos . . my 5320, and the recent D900K I tested are the same way.

Yeah, my 5320 gets pretty warm. I have an Inland Serina cooling pad though, pretty nice, and it keeps the temperture down by a good bit.
