Impatient - I'm really impatient right now I ordered my laptop back on June 22nd and because of the check being send and everything, now the laptop should finally arrive on monday (or today if I fight with UPS because it was supposed to be here yesterday).
Nervous - When I ordered everyone was recommending the 7970m so I got that, now I'm really nervous as people are saying it may not be a driver issue only and may be hardware (Which is why AMD deleted the thread here). I'm really hoping I won't have to contact XoticPC and ask them to send me a 680m (and pay an extra 245 to replace it because of issues).
Since I ordered this laptop all I have been doing is reading threads here and because negatives are usually the main topic of forums it has made me increasingly nervous. Anyone here loving their laptop with a 7970m? (on top of gaming I will be using this for engineering at school so I will be using CAD and I do photoshop and edit movies as a hobby)

For me the 7970m has worked decent. Most of the time gameplay feels smooth, though I suffer from fps drops and low utilization. I made sure I can switch to a 680m if these problems aren't fixed, since I won't be satisfied with a card that doesn't work as it should. Still, it is not THAT bad for me and if they fix the problems, the 7970m is going to fly, beating 680m in many games. But that is still an if.

And it is so ridiculous that it is an if. This card should never have been released in its current state and it is even worse that it is 'if' this issue is rectified.

Remember every thing is speculation. When people say there are hardware issues it is mere speculation. You made a good choice, and shouldn't worry. The 7970m still is a good performer for it's price. From here, just hope either better game patches are released or AMD, Sager or Clevo fix the issues through driver/BIOS updates.
Yes, the 7970m should not have been released with it's current support. I am pretty angry about it, but I'm still happy I saved $300. -
As far as gaming is concerned we have made some noise in the past couple of weeks, and AMD has stated (on their forum) that they're working on the issue. It's highly unlikely that it's a hardware issue but drivers and such.
Don't be nervous. I ordered the same laptop with the same card, and I'm not, and I don't do CAD work -
You'll be fine with your card
Especially if you are doing cad work. As mentioned, the processing power of AMD cards smash Kepler. Here is a quote from me regarding this issue, with links to benchmarks.
And your waiting time is typical. Don't be too nervous!

The 7970m does at least outperform the 670m and 675m right now, right?
-
Yes, with ease.
-
don't expect much from AMD, you're stuck with what you got most likely. I hardly trust their support, hence why I am sending my 7970m back.
-
This is kind of why I'm nervous. I mean if I have to I will call up XoticPC and ask them to send me out a 680m (not that I want to spend more money or lose the CAD performance). I am debating just sticking it out with the 7970m for a year or so and hopefully Nvidia launches the 7xxm like with better CAD/Pro App support and make some good substantial improvements (If they do I will just buy whatever that top of the line card is for that line). Out of curiosity how much is an MXM 680m that will fit in the NP9150 (I'm talking about outright not upgrade price)?
-
Moving forward I doubt nvidia will support pro app performance in their gaming cards. They are trying to market they quadro pro Line, so don't expect 7xx series to deliver in processing power.
You will be fine with 7970mIt's not like its a completely broken.
Edit. $750 for 680m here. Not sure if it comes with heatsink.
