Hey guys, i'm looking forward to joining the sager community here soon as I buy my first laptop for college. Just wondering if I should buy now, wait for new intel processors, or new Sager 17'' line to come out. Does anyone have any info on realeace dates or anything? what should I do? I need a laptop before September.
-
wait till Aug.
-
If your getting a laptop college waiting for the 5764 (17" with montevina chipset) might be calling it close
-
Only the M570TU is expected to be the new 17" notebook.. although its not technically new.
Its just a refresh of the M570RU with Montevina platform. -
no info on 9262 refresh right?
-
well they are definitely gonna put 9800m on 9262, that's for sure.
-
how about the gtx 270&280 mobile card
-
what abou wimax and hdmi?
-
On the M570TU, HDMI and eSATA ports have been confirmed. not sure about wimax, prob'ly not.
-
i m talking about 9262...
-
Intel has pushed back the release date for Montevina until July. I would wait at least until end of July to see if Clevo will release the M570TU. You'll still have the whole month of August to buy something else if the release date gets pushed back again or the waiting list is too long. I, on the other hand, need one by end of June for lots of video editing and business presentations. HDMI & eSATA ports along with Blu Ray and a 9800GTX (or 8800GTX) would have been icing on the cake!
-
nope, no word yet from clevo about a D901C update. But I can't imagine Clevo not having an HDMI port on any of their future top of the line products. Wimax, on the other hand, is debatable.
-
From whats been hinted by resellers ive spoken to, the upgradeability of the the D901c chassis itself means no new 17 will come off the line for at least another year. (as in, they can just keep puttin in new mobo's and chips with no problem) except there is talk about a slightly newer model with the HDMI port. I personally do not need the HDMI port so watev.
-
Just buy a cheap DVI-HDMI adapter for any current Clevo 17"... there ya go.
Thats what I do with my 2 year old D900K.
As for audio streaming, I usually use my SPDIF or external soundcards... so HDMI audio would not matter to me anyways. -
i see...so the only concern to me is weight...i like the design,qc part, display(which by Chaz`s words is great),and all the other staff, but weight...and price difference between this and 5793 is ~100$....ahhh
-
If you're interested in the NP9262, and have the time to wait a while, you might consider waiting just to see if, by any chance, the cost of the current CPUs available for the 9262 comes down as the time draws closer for the release of the successors to those CPUs. Of course, that may not happen at all, but it's unlikely that the price of the current CPUs will increase, so if you can afford to wait (both financially and emotionally
), it might be worthwhile waiting just on the off chance that the CPU prices might drop, thereby lowering the cost of an already-available configuration.
-
I'd say the TU is about the only "new" clevo for this summer.
I'd get a 9262 in a heartbeat though
-
Well, that's a bummer--No new chassis, improved or updated LCD/LED, or 18.4" screen on the horizon for the 9262? With all the promised refreshes being announced by other manufactures, they plan on waiting a year or more to refresh? Seems like a long time, but I guess I've read that's the case with Clevo/Sager.
-
One should not confuse novelty with improvement; putting an oddball LCD into the D901C would be an unnecessary, gratuitous alteration serving absolutely no purpose other than to frustrate the current owners. That said, the D901C is still, and will be for the next year or so, the most powerful notebook on the scene, and should not be refreshed even then. Instead, given that the major components in the D901C are at the apex of the particular architecture they embody, Clevo should refrain from messing around with the D901C and instead focus its efforts on development of the D901C's successor, in particular, given that the current chipset has about reached its limits, and that Intel is, with Nehalem, moving to an entirely different architecture (e.g., no more FSB).
-
I would prefer that Clevo invested in developing a new motherboard and chipset while mantaining the same chassis as I believe that is enough both in size, number of fans, component positioning and heat pipes. This targeting to solve some problems that I've mentioned in some other posts.
This would allow current owners to upgrade their machines to new hights simply by replacing the motherboard (As they have been doing for no good reason IMHO apart from bad engeneering). 20.000 3dMark06 score in 7 months with the 9800M GTX in SLi
One particular aspect that might just require a few more holes in the chassis is HDMI and ESATA. If Clevo mantains the current ports (USB, DVI et al) then it is simply the case that current owners will not use those extra ports.
This is called customer care right down the path from business to engeneering. Indeed if Clevo manages to pull this hat off as a corporation I'll eat my shoe
With good engeneering it is totally feasible IMHO.
Then comes Nehalem. How difficult can that with the experience of Clevo building chassis and integrating CPU chipsets be when Intel already did almost all the work
. The dificulty might only be if Nehalem architecture produces too much hot air

@DFTrance: I thought too much hot air was the primary product of the computer industry?
-
@Shyster: Yeah, that is why we try to solve the planet's global warming with heat pipes and fans
-
any info on nalhem ?
-
End of next year probably. Just in time for the Christmas Bonuses. Until then spend your money on SkullTrail.

The picture looks "complicated".Still looks cool
-
I can confirm that Clevo does not have any intention in releasing a replacement for the D901C for this year anyway.
... as well as the M570TU is the only new 17" notebook for release.
I cannot confirm that there would be a refresh for D901C with HDMI, e-SATA, etc. But I am pretty sure there wont be. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The M570TU will have both HDMI and e-SATA ports.
Gophn is correct in that there will be no changes to the D901C including no HDMI or e-SATA.. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It will not be called the 5794.
More likely it will be called the Sager NP5796 -
paladin will it have any of the new montevina features or pretty much just sata and hdmi and new cpu??
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The M570TU will be a Centrino 2 platform with all of its features once all of them have been released.
-
great good info thanks
-
How so? What happened to 94 and 95?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Sager is entitled to select any model numbers they want to...and they have their reasons for not selecting NP5794.
-
They should get out of the 5000's all together and call it the 0001
-

Any approximate release date? Can it be expected by Mid July?
-
I guess depending on when the m860tu is released we can expect this to be released shortly thereafter.
-
Any clues as to why?
I might go ahead and throw in a guess : the older RU will get 2 more series, the 94 and 95 and the new TU will start from 96.
If you don`t give me an answer, I`ll keep on thowing guesses
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Guess all you want...I am not at liberty to confirm or deny the reasoning.
Who cares about it anyway...other than you that is?
-
I am insulted. :twitcy:
Fine, I supose that if Intel can make hickup naming, why wouldn`t sager do it?
IT joke :
How did they come up with the 686 Computer?
They added 100 to 586 and got 685.9999999999 -
they can call it "eleron911" if they want
-
Better yet, they should take a cue from one of the big 5793 fans here, Prasad, and call it the 007!
-
-
i think corporations do these things just to annoy us. they give no reason so we want to know. No point to it all IMO
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Ah but Sager does have its reasons, they just are not interested in sharing them. I don't see why it matters one way or the other.
I think we should call it ELERON911-ROCKETSHIP -
I agree that would be a rocking name!!
-

Somethings just have no reason.
-
lastrebelstanding Notebook Evangelist
I would call it RAMBO
-
I would name it doodles... altho that would probably have much less selling power than RAMBO.... THe new improved Beast RAMBO...
THe amazing new DOODLE computeR! -
@paladin
would you by chance have a clue on when the nvidia quadro fx 3600m would be hitting the 9262? That is the one component I need the most, well other than the quad core and three hard drives...
I really need the notebook by august, preferably early early august, to get warmed up with it -
Finally a brilliant IDEA !
New 17'' Sager Laptop, soon?
