    Very useful for SSD+HDD configurations.
What is the reason, chassis is the same, where it went the space? They say the caddy can only be put in optical drive.

as Derek said it would help telling us which model you are referring to.
dont the 17" still have the option of 2 msata hard drives plus the normal drive and an optional caddy to replace the dvd drive.

A few of the entry level 17.3" do lack a second hard drive bay, it helps keep the prices down and be at the price point they are designed for.
Kinda like some cars have 4 cylinders, some 6, some 8, some even more! That may be all some people need.

They come with a mSATA slot too (W670XXX) except the W271CZQ just one HDD bay and ODD bay. Anyone in the US selling the W271?

Yes i am talking about that ones, and i understand that part. I just feel that in this time with SSD's in flux and DVD's still not completely out this forces some people to go to msatas SSD's which are not so widespread and might be more expensive as result..
I also don't know if the current msata port have any aditional performance penalty.

Btw i should praise Clevo to make lesser expensive 17" models. If they existed 5 years ago i would have went for one instead of an HP.

clevo have been around since 1983. my old m860tu is 7 years old and still going strong so it shows if they are looked after they will last.
like you i just wished i had heard of them before i bought the crap m15x from alienware which lasted all of 19 days.

Msata ssds are perfectly competant at the job and don't carry a huge premium.

mSATA and SSD drives are pretty much the same dollar per GB. These models also use SATA III ports for both the mSATA and HDD bays so you dont really take any performance hit.

None specifically just trying to know if they changed in a coherent decision.

Every machine will have a different hardware layout, it you narrow your search down to a specific machine that suits your needs we'll be much better equipped to tell you where what is.
