    Hey everyone!

For the last month and a half Ive been searching for the perfect notebook that would be an ideal cross between gaming and on-the-go productivity. Thanks to a teacher/really good friend of mine, i found the sager 5720.

Ive been reading up on your 5720 conversations for quite a while now, and have decided that this notebook will suit me perfectly. I went out and purchased one with these specs:

NP5720V - 17.0" WIDE VIEWING ANGLES WUXGA ACTIVE MATRIX LCD DISPLAY WITH SUPER CLEAR GLOSSY SURFACE NOTEBOOK COMPUTER

    Intel® Pentium® M Processor 780 / 2MB L2 Cache, 2.26 GHz, 533MHz FSB

Nvidia GeForce GO 7800 GTX PCI-Express 16X Graphics with 256MB DDR3 Video Memory

    2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz - 2 X 1024MB

    100.0GB (SATA 7200rpm) SATA 150 Hard Drive

    8X DVD ± R/RW/ 4X +DL Multi Drive & Softwares

    Additional Smart Li-ION Battery

    Integrated 56K V.90 Internal Fax/Modem

    Integrated 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet LAN & Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG LAN 802.11a/b/g Module

with the additional 2 yr warranty (in my opinion you cant be too carefull with laptops)

The only thing Im not concerned about is the WUXGA display. I havent gotten this pc yet, it will be arriving this friday, and Im hoping I made the right decision. I dont usually have a problem with smaller res, but is it really THAT small?

    anyone have any screenshots?

    thanks :)

alot of people have been recommending getting the wsxga+ on a 17" screen.

yes it is pretty small. i think it is overkill, and some people have even returned their wuxga+ 5720 to get a wsxga+ 5720.

with my attachment, open it, save to disk, then open it with the windows picture viewer, press f11 and it will take up the entire screen (will only work if you already have a 17" screen) and you can see the size of everything, it won't be as clear as it will with your sager as my screen is native 1440x900 but you can judge the size of everything

wow. Thats small for even my liking. That resolution can go a little lower then that though cant it? say 1200x1068 if i so desired? or is that the lowest it will go?

You can always set up the DPI to make the text bigger. You can do that by:
Desktop Properties > Settings tab > Advanced.

I would get the notebook and just try it out. It might work for you. WUXGA displays are beautiful.

I would always run the LCD in its native resolution, otherwise it gets blurry. An LCD has a certain 'pixel grid', that when not used in their native res, the new resolution must be stretched over the grid - causes distortion/bluriness.

BTW - killer configuration you have that, one of the most powerful notebooks I've seen. :)

Thanks Chaz, I hadnt known that about an LCD, even though i have two at my house, both 17", but i use both in 1200x1024 (their native)

I do intend on still givin it a try, I'll probably end up liking it more then I think i will.

And thanks for the comment on the setup. To give you the quick low down, I was basically given a 4k spending limit on a new desktop/notebook, and because i already have a desktop, although not a very high end one, i went with the lappy

    thanks for the help.

sure brank, Id be happy to post my comments when I do recieve my 5720.

Id like to know where that toolbar came from too, does it come on the sager? the friend that told me about Sagers has an alienware tower at his house and has that toolbar.

When i got my 5720, everyone claimed it was so small. I was happy that I could read it fine at native resolution, my eyesight is like 25/45 and its fine for me. I bumped the DPI font thing so it doesnt strain my eyes

My opinion, the WUXGA is too small, the WSXGA is perfect on that system.

I just rescieved my 5720 yesterday, and ive gotta say its probably the best investment ive ever made. I was worried about the WUXGA screen, but when i started the computer and saw it, i wondered why i even worried. If you dont have the best eyesight, i dont reccomend it because it will strain your eyes, but I dont mind the huge resolution in the slightest bit

If you have a ruler somewhere handy, find the 1/4 inch mark on it, and thats how "tall (for lack of a better word)" the toolbar is on the WUXGA's native resolution. then go about 14 inches wide and thats your toolbar. That probably makes me sound like an idiot and doesnt help much, but just trying to give you a general idea on the resolution.

just use my bloody picture! haha, you should take a screen shot poseign, just press usually Fn+PrtSc and open paint or photoshop if you are a gangster and paste in the screen shot (Ctrl+V) you will have to save it as a jpeg so it won't be such a huge file and attach it to a post,

just right click the tasbar go to toolbars/ quicklaunch, to make it have all those programs just right click taskbar again and click lock the taskbar, slide the little slider bar over as far as you would like, and throw programs in there like a madman, with wusxga+you should be able to have 25 or so programs and still have a longer taskbar than most standard displays! wooot!

I dont meed how u got those applications all on the toolbar, i know how to do that :p, i mean where did u get that custom skin? Its very sweet and i want it :p Ive tried such programs like windows blinds, and i tried downloading stylexp once but the dang file was corrupted or something and wouldnt install. Is it one of those programs u used? was it a different one?

oh sorry poseign, it is Vista Inspirat 1.1 i really like it now, i hated it but now i like it, don't know why.

what i did was install all the basic stuff that comes with vista inspirat 1.1 (it comes with icons and objectdock and alot of stuff i didn't like) but i figured out if you uninstall inspirat 1.1 and then uninstall it, the basic skin for all the windows and taskbar are still installed without all the crap i didn't want.

after you uninstall it you can go to appearance and there will be a Vista style instead of just windows classic and windows xp, and everything can be adjusted like the title bar color etc.

get vista inspirat 1.1 and uninstall it. that is what gets you this theme :)

thanks a lot, thats what i was looking for :) You have no idea how hard it is to find decent add on toolbar skins like that without having to pay for it or having to download a lot of other useless crap and adware with it. I think ill try that when i have a broadband connection available, like in school today sometime.

This is somewhat off-topic, but if you want to find some great customization apps/tools/etc, go to www.wincustomize.com. You can get a lot of cool stuff there, ad-aware/spyware free, it's safe.

They have a program that changes your boot-up skin. I have one that says "Windows XP: Pirated Edition". :D And they have so many themes for Windows you could spend days browsing through them.

    Rambling . .

Poseign, don't know if I said it before, but nice laptop. :)

    Cheers

Poseign...you really like your system? I am close to getting almost the same one. How long did it take to get to you? What Warranty did you get? How fast is it compared to a desktop (I have a 2.8 ghz Emachine)? Have you had any problems with it at all? Oh yeah...i have read there is a Hiss from the head phones...is this true or did Sager fix it?

I doreally like the system. Its funny that u mention that u have a 2.8 ghz emachine, i have the same thing sitting on my desktop as we speak. (Celeron).

With me, it took a week and a half, mainly because my notebook was $3600 and my debit card had a spending limit of $1200 a day, so it took them 3 days to charge it to me, and it took 2 days to build, but I went with the UPS 2 day delivery also, and other than having to wait to be charged, it was pretty fast. Compared to a 2.8 ghz emachine, this computer FLIES, the Centrino is amazing, and the graphics card kicks butt.

To be honest with you, i have had a slight problem with my touchpad. Every once in a while, given the right conditions, the computer gets a static charge that will cause slight problems with the touchpad. Sometimes the computer will even release a static discharge. It's only happened in the cold, dry basement in my house though, so that probably has something to do with it. I havent bothered sending it back to sager because of it only because they'd prolly just send it right back. That and its not a major problem, and is, to my knowlege, not associated with any other 5720 that i know of.

The headphones on my 5720 do not crack or hiss, and ive never had a problem with those, you shouldnt need to worry about that.

Hope this helped a little :)

Just pressed the "order" button at powernotebooks.com. We will have the exact same system, (but mine is 100GBX5400 RPM) but I didn’t buy my extended warranty yet. I have up to 6 Mos. I came in just under $3K. powernotebooks have some great prices! Now I must wait for it to arrive.

Poseign…do you do wireless internet? How if so have you tried HLII: Death Match over it? Even though I bought a gaming system, I am not a huge gamer, but I like to be prepared incase a cool game comes out. I may want to try FEAR in the near future.

Have fun waiting for it to arrive, we'd like to hear your thoughts and impressions when you get it.

very cool to hear that satgale :) Unfortunately, im currently off on a choral festival for my school about 1 1/2 hours south of my home town while my computer sits on my desk, so i cant get you a screen shot at the moment.

Yes I do wireless internet, but I have not played that game on it. Wireless tends to make games a lot more choppy because the signal is traveling through the air and not a cord, so any type of gameplay on a wireless isn't recommended, although USUALLY possible.

Good luck with the 5720 Satgale, you'll enjoy it :) Any other questions you know howto reach me, and i can try to help yah out :)

EDIT: Maybe this will help. If you have a 17 inch monitor on your current home PC (or any pc) set its resolution to 1200 x 1024 (i think thats the res, if not its whatever is close to that) and go in to microsoft word, open a file, and set that file to view it at 67% of its original size, and thats about what 100% looks like on the 1920 x 1200 wuxga screen of the 5720, but a lot clearer.

I am really thinking about getting this notebook, just a couple of questions.

What are the dimensions of this notebook, and would you think the 17" is a fairly big size to carry around? I just don't want anything to be too big, but 15.4" don't really house the graphics card and power.

The WUXGA screen seems pretty small, anyone have a comparison with the other? I'm guessing the larger resolution would defenately benefit me more with the gaming, 3D and graphics design though. (i.e. 3DSM, Maya, Photoshop, Illustrator, Oblivion, FFXI, WoW, etc)

What's the weight in kilos? What's the heat like? And the battery?

I would so love it if you answered, thanks. ^^ And congratulations and what looks to be a good machine.

I can only answer the battery life part of your question omecle, and I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the NP-5720 gets around 2 hours of battery life.
