Hello everyone. I just got my new 9262 confiugured with a Quad Core Q9550 2.83GHz Processor. Rockin' machine![]()
Now, this may have probably been discussed in depth before here in the forums but I would like to know a couple of things regarding CPU upgrade options on this machine and oveclocking issues.
First of all, is it possible to overclock the 9262 with the Q9550 (that has a locked multiplier)? IF so, has the ClockGen been identified and is there any software that can raise the laptop's FSB?
Secondly, I spoke with Sager that confirmed with me they'll be offering the newer Quad Core Q9650 3.0GHz once its out in a couple month (that also has a locked multiplier). This is basically a budget Quad Core CPU with similar specs as the Extreme Edition QX9650 counterpart (which is multiplier unlocked). Aside from that difference, what makes the Extreme Edition run so much hotter than the the standard CPUs (95W versus 130W)? I was under the impression aside from the multiplier issue, the standard and extreme edition processors were pretty much the same.
Sager also told me that it is "impossible" to configure the 9262 with an Extreme Edition Quad Core CPU. Is this correct? Has anyone (been bold enough) to try it?It certainly would make overclocking much easier with raising the CPU's multiplier.
I have a Desktop Computer with a QX9770 3.20GHz CPU and I am so tempted to try it on the 9262... I won't do it... I am just temptedThe idea of having a laptop computer as fast as my desktop (so I can get rid of it all together) is alluring
... I say all of this because Sager (Clevo) is so conservative when confirming what type of CPU upgrades are supported or not...
Thanks in advance for your advice and views in all this![]()

CPU cannot be overclocked in this notebook (no software or BIOS supports it... we have tested them all)
Quad-Extremes are not worth it, nor are they practical when you cannot overclock them in this system. It is not recommended due to the power consumption as well.... try it and fry it. -
isn`t a 2.83 quad enough>?

There is some promise as far as video processing goes on the new Toshiba Laptops coming out with Spurs Engine co-processors (as used in the PS3s) but, 1, they are not out yet as they're based on the Centrino 2 plattform and mobile Quad-Core CPUs (that will be launched at 2.53GHz, though with unlocked multiplier which can be promising), and 2, for the past 10 years I have ONLY bought Sager/Clevo machines and I swear by them, so, I buy nothing else as far as laptops go -
OCing will either kill them fast or make them burn themselves out.
2.83 and a notebook cooler is the best way. -
This is a laptop hat I plan to hold onto till, EXTREMELLY HOPEFULLY sometime early net year, Clevo will have a Nehalem Processor/ X57 Chipset based new laptop that will replace this one... I have no clue how the thermal issues can be worled around as the Nehalem CPUs run hotter than the Perynn's but, hope is the last thing to dieAttached Files:

Nice to hear they are going to support the 3.0ghz chip. I have the Q9550 too and might make the upgrade down the road even though performance increase is small.

Can someone explain to me the difference between standard and Extreme Edition Quad-Core Processors, aside from the locked/unlocked multiplier? What are the internal processing differences and what makes the Extreme Editions run so much hotter?
Thanks in advance!
