I'm aware of who Johnkss is. Thank you very much. He also posts around here, or used to at any rate. And how is the 9700M GTS is better than the 9800M GTS or 8800M GTS? The 9800M GTX is, but you pay a lot more. $2,200 is not exactly bargain gaming.

Secondly, the new iteration of the FX series is supposed to come with the P8400, 4GB DDR3 RAM 200 GB 7200 RPM, 1920 x 1200 and 9800M GTS for 1450. How does that NOT kick the living crap out of the Toshiba for price/performance? Even if it doesn't come with the 1920 x 1200 screen (which I suspect might be the case as the earlier FX series all came with 1440 x 900), it still beats the Q701 substantially for price/performance.

When not on sale, even the Q701 is more expensive than the new FX. The Q702 is $2,199. That's $750 more for the 9800M GTX, harmon kardon speakers, 1 less GB of DDR3 RAM, and a lower resolution screen. That doesn't seem to be quite worth it.

Here's the page for the Q702. Google cache.
http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cach...com&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=2&gl=us&client=firefox-a Appears to be dead now.

The question about the screen was that my understanding was that the X305 suffered from a lid that flexed while opening it. No one is asking you or expecting you to be carrying it with the screen.

The q701 is a flop, if I buy a 9700m gts laptop it would be the F55 15.4 model. Sure the Sager np8660 will be a better deal when released, but if the f55 goes on sale it will be a very good competitor, price wise.

Compared to what, would it not be a bargain? You throw the GTX in any current config, which you won't receive til september, and how much would you spend with the new Chipset and ddr3?

Secondly, not sure where you're finding info on the new FX..cause I havent wasted the time to look. But, if you were looking at x305 stats a month ago you'd expect a 400GM HDD, and a GTX, and it's not out for another month or so.. when is this "supposed" to happen with the FX?

How much would it cost if you were to purchase the FX and upgrade the RAM, GPU(if even possible), and add a decent sound system? BTW, the Q702 won't be $2200 when finally released. Expect it for approx $300 less.

As I said before, I've never opened a laptop and never had flex. The idea is to make "lightweight" products for portability..right? If ya wanted a SOLID screen, you'd hook up to your TV.

Try using a business model laptop. Heck, even my 4 year old Inspiron doesn't flex when opening.

My point was that the 7811 FX comes with almost the same details as the Q702, except for the harmon kardon and 9800M GTX. You get more RAM and a higher resolution screen with the 7811FX. While I'm not wholly convinced the sheet as being completely accurate, as the sheet says WXGA and puts (1900 x 1200), hence why I mentioned my doubts about the screen in the earlier post.

Like I mentioned earlier, there's no guarantee that the spec sheet is accurate, however, the current price is supposed to be $1450 and available on August 14th. Even at $300 than 2,200, that's still $450 more than the FX. You're paying $450 for the speakers/GTX. A screen upgrade for the X305 will cost you about 200-300. As I recall the X305's first pricing mentioned $3,500, 1GB card, 400GB drives.

By the way, why do you say the Q702 will come out about $300 cheaper than BB's current price?

I don't understand why everyone choose 2.5Ghz over 2.4ghz, ever since 5793, I rather spend those money on HDD or WUXGA. just my little opinion.

Looks fine to me. I'm wonder the same as Nirvana about the processor, but not as strongly I guess. As for the screen, you might want to check out if WSXGA is what you want on a 17". Resolutions are a very personal thing.

By the way, why didn't you get a bigger or faster drive, Nirvana?

    Lol, changed your mind already?

The DM17 does look pretty sweet. Hopefully the ATI cards will get their kinks worked out soon.

@ sujinge7 That's basically why I got a T9300. Plus I got it cheap. 270 when it was retailing for 340 or so. Figured if I was going to pay for a T8300, might as well pay for the T9300.

Definately cheaper, and less hassle than purchasing the lesser model and attempting to upgrade. Beats the crap outta building a Dell, Sager, or any other of those build here buy here type places. And Toshiba's customer support is top notch in my opinion.. so if you have any issues expect them to be handled quickly, by an indian reading a script.

1 extra hard drive and 1 GTX instead of the GTS = almost double the price of the previous model with the 320GB HDD and the 9700mGTS. I am not exactly sure how this is cheaper. 900 pounds just for the GTX and a 320GB disk?

As for the indian bit, I could say I am greek and whether it is an indian, a german, an english etc etc, it's the same for me since none of them will speak greek. But, I won't.
Be glad there is at least the "indian" guy to help and you don't have to know another language.

Sorry to bring this up again, but the X305 Q702 in the US is nothing like the X300 11W. It's also more than three times more expensive than the 7811FX and more than twice as expensive as the X305 Q702. It's definitely packed with a lot more goodies, but you're paying a lot for it.

It may, however, be a more viable option in the EU/UK due to the higher prices of Clevo resellers.
