    Hello all,

I just got a new unbranded version of the Clevo D900C (or is it the D901C?). It really is an awesome machine, in every sense of the word. Anyway, I've got a few questions for you experts. I didn't see any of the information I'm looking for in the manual I received.

Just to give you some background: I got mine with Windows Vista Ultimate x64. Its nice, but I found that I missed XP, not least because I couldn't utilize SLI under Vista. So I partitioned the hard drive and made the machine dual bootable with XP (I'd bought XP Home Edition some years ago, so I had the CD). This all worked out fine.

    Questions:

    1) I'm new to SLI, and I noticed that the nVidia advanced display control panel features specific profiles for a lot of games. Is it more or less necessary to select the profile for a game you are about to play? Or is the global profile nearly as good, so that I needn't bother setting it every time I want to play a different game?

    2) I have attached an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse (since I really am using this machine as a desktop replacement). Is there a way I can get it to default to the external monitor? As it is, it starts up with both the laptop and external monitor. But once the XP desktop is loaded, it defaults to the laptop monitor, so I need to press Fn+F7 to switch it every time I start up.

    3) Likewise, are there ways to set it to a) default with the wireless LAN off (I have mine hard wired to my router), and b) default to having the full fan on all the time (as it is, I always press Fn+1 after I start so that the fans are maxed?

    Thanks for any info!

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

    Congrats on the new beast.

    1) you do not really need to use the Nvidia profiles

    2) you should set the external display to be the primary in the Nvidia nView options (then it will become the main when Windows is loaded up)

    3) if you are hardwired to the router, just disable the wireless connection (under Network Connections > right-click and choose Disable)

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your new machine! And yes, it is a D901C not a D900C. Check the bottom of your notebook. We have yet to actually see any D900C's.

I'll add your name to the D901C's Owners Thread, come check it out! :)

Wow, thanks for the replies everyone! :)

I was able to disable the wireless LAN with no problem. But I haven't been able to set my external monitor as the primary display yet. So far, as soon as I get to the Windows XP desktop, the machine defaults to the laptop display. Please give me some more details if possible.

Here's what I've tried so far:

In Windows XP, I went to Control Panel -> Display -> Settings tab -> Advanced -> GeForce Go 7950 GTX tab -> nView Display Settings menu. On that window I see two drop down menus. The top is labeled: "nView Display Mode:", and there is only one option in that drop down menu: "Single display". The drop down menu below that is labeled: "Current display:", and in that drop down box I have two options: 1) "PX2320MW" (which is my external monitor), and 2) "Laptop Display". I can toggle between the displays by selecting one, and pressing the "Apply" button at the bottom of the window.

Below the drop down menus are two check boxes which are grayed out. The top one is "Make this the primary display", and it is checked. The bottom is "Disable auto-panning on secondary device (viewport lock)", and it is unchecked. It doesn't matter which monitor I select as "Current display", the bottom check boxes remain the same and grayed out.

If I hover over the "Make this the primary display" check box, I get a pop-up balloon stating: "This setting does not apply to Single display mode. ... To configure multiple attached displays, use the nView Display Mode page."

Problem is: I cannot find any nView Display Mode page, if that is in fact what I need to do.

Thanks for any help with this! And don't hesitate to let me know if I'm just being dense or I'm missing something obvious ;)

You need to enable the Nvidia Desktop display if I'm not mistaken. Right click on the desktop and there should be a Nvidia option. Click that and in there should be a way to enable the Nvidia Desktop display. Sorry not at my machine atm or I would try to be more detailed. :(

The easiest way to set the external display to default is by :
    - choosing DualView Mode
    - set the external display to be Primary
    - then switch it back to Single Display Mode

That's what I figured. I just have the problem that DualView mode is not shown to be an available option. When I get to nView Display Mode drop down box, the only option available is "Single Display". Let me know if I'm missing something.

In Vista this was actually easy. As soon as I started up, it detected the external monitor and gave the option to select one, or the other, or both. Nice!

    Thanks for all the help!

Well, I discovered that if I disable SLI, then I can choose DualView mode as an option. Otherwise it is not in the drop down box.

But even after I am in DualView, the checkbox for "Make this the primary display" remains grayed out. And it is only checked when I have "Laptop Display" selected as the "Current display device". If I select "PX2320MW" (my external monitor) as the "Current display device", the "Make this the primary display" checkbox is unchecked and grayed out.

I guess I may just have to live with pressing Fn+F7 when booting into XP for a while. I'd be curious if anybody else has a setup with an external monitor, and has been able to set it as their primary display in XP.

Thanks again for all the help.

The easiest way to disable the wireless lan is just to hit Fn F10 (I think... the one with the little antena symbol on it).

This will just turn it off and your cable will be primary. This way if you *do* want to go wireless just turn it back on with the same keystroke.

Makes life much easier then going back and forth to the network connections screen.
