I got my Clevo W230SD a couple of days ago.

    Spec: i7-4710MQ and GTX 960M

I have played BF3 for maybe 4 hours on it, and altough it runs hot, it stays in the 90c area for the GPU and 80-85 on the CPU.

However, today i noticed that the CPU reached 99c (in BF3) and the air coming out of the vent was lukewarm at best.

I'm thinking that the thermal compound is badly applied at the factory, but 4 hours of gaming and thats it? seriously?

I have checked the heatsink and all the screws are tight.

Replace the stock paste with GC Extreme or IC Diamond. Haswell runs hot though and BF is well known for burning them up pretty well.

Will the NT-H1 be as good as the GC Extreme? I can get the NT-H1 from a store nearby tomorrow, the GC have to be ordered online.

I'd keep to the ic diamond or gc extreme as they are known to be low maintenance and perform well over time.

NT-H1 is terrible for low pressure mounts as it pumps out quickly but if it will be a bit before you can get something better it will work.

You'll like it. Performs extremely well and isn't hard to get out of the tube like IC Diamond can be plus it won't scratch your dies.

It's worth doing that rather than 5 repastes down the line ;)

Ok, so now i have repasted CPU and GPU using this video

Cleaned all surfaces with thermal remover, and my idle is about 53c.

Tried BF3, and the CPU was around 70-75c, GPU around 90c, all of a sudden my fps started dropping, and the CPU was up to 97-99c again. Still the air coming out of the vent is cold. :(

    Anyone?

Ok, a repaste has been done. This time a smaller stripe on the CPU, i use a stripe here as its rectangular. And a dot on the GPU.

It all starts fine, and the air coming out is warm, not extremely warm, but its a nice warm flow.

It seems like when the GPU is hitting 99% usage, and the temp on the GPU stays in the 90-93c area, thats when the CPU starts to rise. Its strange because it stayed around 80c for a long time, and the airflow was actually warm, and i can feel the airflow getting colder, the FPS starts to drop and the CPU goes haywire and get 97-99c again.

I opened up the back panel to actually touch the heat pipes. The GPU pipe is not hotter than i can touch it, the CPU pipe however is quite hot.

    I just dont get this.

Ok, its happening when the GPU is hitting 99% usage in BF3, even if the CPU usage says its around 40%.

The GPU and CPU can be 90c at the same time, and the GPU usage can be hovering around 80-90, the CPU will stay at the same. But as soon as the GPU hits 99% usage, the CPU temp rises to 97-99c.

    ??

I have done some more testing:

Intel Burn Test at Maximum gives me a CPU temp of 85c, and Furmark gives me a GPU temp of 65c.

I have tried to touch the coolerpipes again, and both are hot to touch after stress testing. Especially the CPU pipe is very hot, but also the GPU pipe is hot after running furmark, but not as hot as the CPU pipe.

So i guess the thermal pasting was a success, as both pipes are hot now.

I guess this is an BF3 issue some how.
