I went ahead and grabbed the images, in case they get taken down.
Here we have the x7200:

And the W880CUH:

I'm not so sure that the X7200 can have a desktop i7 + two 100W Nvidia cards on just a 300W PSU.
The W880CUH looks like what I've been waiting to see. Interesting that there's a GTX 380M listed alongside the GTX 480M. I'm sure the 120W PSU is incorrect.
Both have USB 3.0 as well.
-
As I stated in the 480M thread, due to the name similarity with the x8100, it seems more likely that the x7200 would be a SLI notebook with a mobile CPU.
A desktop CPU would require a > 400W brick. -
Fast reaction, m8!
Yeah, beside the obvious mistakes the info looks very intriguing. -
Only if the 480s are as power hungry as they are presented so far.
980X+5870CF might....might work, if you remove and throw away the battery, heh...
-
Hard to imagine all that power and heat in a notebook. Should be interesting.
-
I just noticed that the GTX 380M is listed as DX11 compatible. I wonder if it's a G200 GPU with DX11 tacked onto it.
I really hope it isn't a G92b model. -
Huzzah the D900 got that chassis redesign.
Boo that the numpad didn't. ;þ
The spec page for the x7200 lists GDDR5 for the memory on the 480M and 380M but the order form says GDDR3. Go...let the madness ensue!
-
GDDR5 with 128 bit memory bus or GDDR3 with 256 bit memory bus... actually it does not really matter as we will most likely not see GDDR5 with a 256 bit memory bus on the GTX 380M or 480M but let's see...
-
Seems clear from this clevobelgique company that there is some basis for their configs but they don't actually know everything as too many mistakes/contradictions.
Their pricing also is
for example they say GTX 480M is 600 more than a GTX 285M. If that is accurate whose gonna buy them? Anyone know how trustworthy they are?
-
That's what's confusing. It looks like a D900 style chassis, but desktop CPU and SLI (at least 75 W x2) Seems like such a beast.
Maybe the D900 family is done for and they're all taking on xXXXX monikers? Still, it would be odd to have a 17 inch with a desktop CPU while the 18 inch one has only mobile parts. -
Thats what we have at the moment, just no SLI on the 17".
Clevo have a big time overlap in there platforms and with Sandy Bridge coming maybe there will be a refresh on X8100 and the X7200 at that time. -
I really hope they don't replace the D900 family. Those notebooks really set Clevo apart from the rest. To the OP: nice find!
-
Right, but the SLI exists in the 18". What I'm getting at is that the D900 and X8100 are two clear market segments (mobile SLI or desktop CPU). When you combine both, but in a smaller package (screen size wise), it's a little curious. There's no telling what Sandy Bridge holds for refreshes, as you point out.
Don't get me wrong, this thing as spec'ed has all the features (and looks) of the current D900, just with the option of SLI. It's not really a step back. -
Finally a new redesign, lets see how well this thing is with the power it will consume, and how many neighborhood lights will go out lol. I hope the screen now has a LED panel in there, be crazy with a RGBLED one.
-
I see 1080p/900p panel options, so it only makes sense that they're using the identical LED panel to which is in the W870CU.
RGBLED is very doubtful, but it sure would be nice. -
Looks like the end of Clevo's 1920x1200 options.
-
Can't wait for a thread called "Clevo has done it, sli GTX 480 and desktop CPU" to appear in the gaming board, lol...
Though I wouldn't get my hopes up. Dual 100W GPU's and desltop CPU seems unlikely... -
If it's true, Clevo's finally getting back to their previous style before D900F, which are the D901C and earlier with desktop CPU and SLI GPU pwning faces everywhere. I think Clevo has had enough with Alienware's short reign of having the most powerful notebook title which is supposed to be Clevo's exclusive.
-
Haha, good times.
Too bad Gophn is off doing his own thing now. Dude's never around.
I guess we had to expect a response, but wow if this is the answer.
Though John@Eurocom said that, as far as he knows, the D900F can't candle the 980X + 480M combo, so it's hard to believe that they've built a new machine which can run a 980X + 480M SLI. I guess this is Clevo though. Anything's possible. -
Don't think Alienware can say they have the fastest laptop title, surely X8100 with 920XM and 285M SLI is faster than M17x with 920XM and 4870M X-Fire? Notebookcheck says Clevo wins that one http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html!
I would have thought that the only current chassis that COULD support 480M GTX without refresh was the D900F. Think we will have to wait until the cards actually surface b4 we know which chassis definitely can cope and which can't! -
thewinteringtree Notebook Consultant
I thought Eurocom claimed 2GB on the 480m? Still not very excited about this until I see benchmarks.
-
Well, the 285M SLI is faster at stock, but 4870MR SLI has a higher OC limit, and Alienware's CPU are unlocked for OC as well, so practically the m17X R2 is faster than x8100. But with the X7200, there's no dispute.
After taking a closer look at the X7200, it seems that the handrest is made of metal, probably brushed aluminium, it really seems as though Clevo is trying to counter every single Alienware advantage, even by having more metals in their chasis. -
I thought the 285M is beaten by the 4870, at stock, but maybe I'm misinformed.
Lenovo had the same 2GB listed, but it's looking like the early info is going to be wrong. -
thewinteringtree Notebook Consultant
Hm. At first the 2GB seemed to be the biggest "whoa ****" with the 480m. Not even sure if it's GDDR3 or GDDR5 yet. This is a ton of speculation without any real specs.
-
285's and the 4870's are about even stock. The 4870's offered much better stability in in-game benches (dramatic high to low spikes in DMC, Crysis and Farcry runs compared to the 4870's which offered a consistent FPS) and yeah the 4870's OC a little bit better.
@fzfh you claim there's no disputing the x7200 and the offerings, but AW has said it will also be implementing the new nvidia cards as well.. -
Yeah, but AW don't have a 980X hexacore in there together with the new nvidia cards.
-
It's too early to say anything yet, if they are planning for a high output revision with supposedly a beefed PSU, USB 3.0 and the Nvidia cards, it may very well be if it will be offering those it will also offer a 980.
The issue is Clevo's vendors "accidently" leak order pages or info. AW is a single entity that doesnt allow that kind of leak. It's just too early to say anything is set in stone right now. -
Point is, AW never ever had any desktop CPUs except for those they rebranded from Clevos, and Dell never made any desktop CPU notebooks either.
-
Why would they need to? AW is a gaming laptop company that caters to gamers, not people who want to run taxing CAD programs or video editing programs. There's no reason for them to make a single GPU + desktop CPU laptops since it bears little on performance of games.
-
Because there are games that will still make use of the CPU and CPU is not just for CAD programs? When light tracing technology is starting to be used in games it will get CPU demanding.
Moreover, when even a single 480M GTX could play games at their max, do we ever say "why would we even need 2 of them?", more power is never bad. -
285s are slightly less powerful (given the same CPU is used as with 4870s) in benches and also less stable in terms of the FPS in games. Notebookcheck did their tests with different CPUs. Click on more info on every type of test to see what config was used.
Also, the overclocking potential of the 4870s seems to be a little bit higher as well.
The Greens are still facing the latency and stuttering issues and that's a huge problem. I had to switch from 280s to 4870 after countless hours of futile tweaking.
But I agree, Clevo should return the title, if they can
.
Looking forward to the clash to pick the new best
-
I agree too Clevo needs to return to the competition against Alienware, i hate when one company has a monopoly over many things. I never liked the current Alienware designs.

Perhaps Alienware will just rebrand this x7200. Then we can have it with the 980X and complete care warranty.
Shame Clevo haven't fixed their keyboard design, I'm not a big fan of the numpad and it may not have RGB LED which after having it is kind of hard to downgrade from.
-
Alienware did never have monopoly over any laptop market. All they (Dell) have that Sager and other resellers do not have is lots of money to spend on marketing.... and yes, now that I remember, the m11x.
Go check The_Moo's review on the Clevo W870CU
he "downgraded" from a m17x with RGB screen.
To me the best thing about Clevo's is that they usually come with very liberal warranties, and you can find barebone versions of them. I would never trade the warranties offered by Sager or RJtech over those offered by Dell/Alienware anytime. -

I know all about it I've read his review and benchmarks. I myself moved from a Clevo to my Alienware. After having this screen and this warranty I can't see myself going back to less. Clevo will have to really impress me to make me want to go back to them, and to be honest no resellers can compete with Dell's complete care warranty. I would happily pay a bit more for the Alienware name stuck on the x7200 if it meant I could get it with complete care warranty, but that's me. To each their own. -
Bro, there's going to be a helluva bunch of impressive laptops this summer to make us run from one camp to another as if on fire, lol. There are at least 2 more (not Clevo's or AW's) coming in early July with something very temping to offer...
-
With the relatively slim profile on the picture of X7200 considering it has a desktop CPU and 2x 480M in it, and Moo's hinting of something never seen before for x7200 during march Cebit where it was showcased behind closed doors, I'm suspecting X7200 is really going to be using water cooling.
Also, if 5870MR CF is available on the X7200, then it most likely will be available on the X8100 as well. -
Besides for benchmarking is there really a reason to go for a desktop CPU over a 920XM or the soon to be released 940XM? Those processors unlocked can really be pushed to crazy OC limits but at the same time have only a max TDP of 55W. I guess what I'm saying is if someone really wanted the power of a desktop processor in a laptop they can get close with the current mobile offerings. With that said 6 cores sounds awesome but if you really needed that power why not actually get a desktop so you know there will not be any thermal limitations for the system. Plus at the price of the 980X it seems way out of the price range of the casual gamer. I guess I don't get the customer base this system is trying to attract besides the people (like me) who want to benchmark the system and see what limitations exist and break through them. A system like the W870CU or W860CU is still more than enough for the casual and hardcore gamer.
130W(980x) + 100W(480M) + 100W(480M) =
-
Well, for gaming, even the Core i5s are fast enough.
I guess there is a niche for people who want to do heavy computational work on a laptop, but it doesn't seem like a very large one to me. -
For almost all kind of games, a single 480M/5870MR is more than enough, but there's still dual GPU notebooks, when it's at this level, it's no longer a matter of what is needed or not, but who has the bigger gun.
And a Clevo with 980X would still be cheaper than an alienware with 940XM anyways, so cost is not an issue here. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
To me it's not a matter of "needs", but what is the max I can get within reason...
-
Finally confirmed the HP dv7 won't be one of them.
Too bad too...a budget crossfire laptop with AMD Phenom x4 would've been pretty neat. -
Yeah, but I didn't mean the HPdv7. Something else is coming.
-
It's too bad you weren't since the dv7 is due out the 19th.
"Something else" coming in July is only worth talking about when it's announced in July and people can do more than chant, "I know a secret! I know a secret!" -
Well, one thing is a 100+ pages of chant about non-existent 5870 CF in M17X which no one has seen, another is when there are new laptops presented and ready to go.
Look at my sig for example. There are no secrets.
-
It would really give me a good chuckle if X7200 with 5870MR CF is released or X8100 gets 5870MR CF before M17X do.
-
Yeah man i have been gaming on again on my quadroFX 3700M lol, yeah i have RGBLED too, I overclocked mine to get better frame rates, are you going to flash your firepro card to the 5870? Its really the only way long term wise. I do want to try out clevo someday i have always been interested in the d900f. Yes Clevo for a long time has had a matte screen option including on the D900F, something i want more and more again.
-
Well, if that FirePro performs well in games and doesn't run too hot, screw the flashing. Also, 8740w is getting a 480M based Quadro in July together with the rest, so there's a room for some upgrades.
