Dell is pre-marketing a new 17" mobile workstation that promises a quad-core cpu, up to 16mb RAM, full Adobe RGB colors, and can power two external 30" monitors according to the brief video here:
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/...en/precision_concept_jumppage?c=us&l=en&s=gen
Not much more info on this, however it seems close to the D901c in specs. Is this possibly a Clevo rebrand?

Dang, that looks nice! Although I shudder to imagine what they are going to charge for 8+ gigs of RAM and a 100% Adobe RGBLED screen..... and quad core??? *shudder*
Maybe if the company makes a million dollars by the time this is available -
No it's not a Clevo rebrand. Just the 17" model of the whole renewed precision line...look for the other models on here to get an idea....the 6400 is just the only one that's not released yet but it's not really news
-
No way. HP, dell, Thinkpad, will never sell rebrands for their flag ship workstations.
-
-
Dells laptop can only run 2 HDDs and inferior laptop quad cores.
It got pwned by the D901C a year in advance.
Its cooling system is probably sub par too considering Dell's track record. -
That's one of the many reasons I just ordered a D901c from Pro-star. -
You're probably referring to the Dell Precision M6400, which is probably made by Quanta. Looks very nice!
-
The M6400 is about the only machine that has made me think twice about buying a Clevo
-
looks awesome wow..
-
I am not surpised about this.
Most Montevina workstation/gaming notebooks should be able to switch to mobile quad-core CPU's... at the staggering price tag of ~$1000 for just the CPU.
Dell is just marketing early. -
Sager on the other hand, does offer 3 Hard drives, desktop quads which are now owning the mobile quads in performance and likely a much better price tag.
Subjective matter, and I think you are just bashing Dell. -
6GB; methinks you're mistaken - the D901C can handle 2 DIMMs of 4GB each, which, higher math sez, adds up to 8GB. Not all of that is addressable, since the Intel chipset has a logical address limitation of 8GB, some of which must be allocated to non-RAM niceties, like GPUs.
On top of which, I don't recall this particular _Dell model being available yet - if we're going to play fantasy notebooks (at least until fantasy football season comes 'round) I can certainly fantasize better than this. -
mobile Quad cores will be much more expensive and less powerful as deskop quad-core CPUs.... easily.
as for power consumption, of the course "mobile" ones would draw less power.
But I care about "bang for the buck" and mobile quad-core are no where near that. -
....though a better screen a smaller and lighter chassis and (probably) better speakers does even it up somewhat. It also comes with 2 display ports. esata. Time for a d901c refresh me thinks.
Thank god for competition -
The XPS is the best they offer for gaming and trust me, it totally kills ANY game.
Having owned both a 5791, and now an XPS, I can safely say that both were high quality made, but the XPS has better overall build, feels more solid, and it`s lighter and better looking than the D901C, has backlit keyboard, light all over etc.
Quad core, in the mobile factor will be a reality pretty soon. However, dual cores are barely getting into the mainstream . -
Shyster, that's good stuff--Made me laugh -
Is there any other notebook screens that have the same color gamut as this Dell is promising? Or is this the first.... I thought ALL laptop screens were TN and TN doesn't excel at wide color gamut.
-
Both HP and Thinkpad's 17'' workstations promises good screens.
-
Who "needs" 16gb of RAM in the near future?
-
Edit:...and Windows 7. -
-
There are not many programs, but there are a few that can use up 16gb of ram.
-
I can use 16gb of ram. In fact, I would LOVE to use 16gb of ram. I am so loving 4.
-
The Vaio AW has the same screen, Dell a bit late
