Hope someone can advise me on panels. I requested an LG/Philips WUXGA panel for my M57RU. Got the machine, it's great, but the LCD panel looks like there's a sparkly crystal coating over it. It's terrible to look at.
The monitor model ID says "LPL0000", which as I understand it, is an LG panel, which is what I requested as (almost) everyone says they're the best to get. Now I'm confounded, as this screen is very nasty indeed. Viewing angles are not very good either.
I'm going to ask for a replacement panel, but what should I ask for? It would be VERY handy to know which LCD model ID numbers are the ones to get, from people who have good ones. However, it needs to be matte not glossy.. does that limit my options a bit?![]()
Or should I just let them put whatever they want in it and specify "non-grainy", "no leaks" and "good angles" instead of trying to be too technical?![]()

Mine is the LPL0B0A and it`s sweet. I even have a video showing it
-
Is that non-glossy (matte) WUXGA? If you say it's top notch, I'll ask them to look for it..
-
It`s Glossy, but it`s one of those kind of glossy with little glare efect. I know it`s not matte, but it`s waaaaay brighter than a matte, and the viewing angles are superb. Check out the last part of the video : http://youtube.com/watch?v=1z-c12iKWB4
-
That's glossy. Currently there is no matte offering on the 5793 (the only matte, WSXGA+, was pulled out recently).
-
I have yet to see a matte screen which has better viewing angles than a glossy, not to mention brightness...
And even so,an exception would not convince me -
Matte is more suitable for many environments than glossy, but either way I don't really care.
-
Well, I use my nx9420(matte) while browsing the internet , in the park, where there is sun.
But the 5791(glossy) is perfect for watching videos , pictures, gaming etc.
As somebody who uses both of them on a regular basis, the glossy wins, hands down. -
Thanks.. but just can't do glossy, too many lights where I am. Apart from that, matte is better for colour matching and stuff.
-
Except to the park.
-
Dude, get the glossy and if it bothers you , you can get a screen protector to remove the glare.
So glossies can become mattes, but vice versa does not work.
It`s a laptop, you`ll use it in other places also, and when you`ll use it in a darker place, the glossy ,bright as it is,will suit your needs.
PS Fade To Black I wouldn`take a noisy laptop in the park -
Matte can become glossy. Somebody here did it to his ThinkPad.
-
You mean, replace the screen.
What I meant is that you can get the protector screen to reduce glare, and take it off when you want. So you have both glossy and matte , all in one. -
No, without replacing.
-
Link? What`d he do?rub it with glared oil?
I`m willing to do that to my HP if it actually works... -
he was using it behind a window?
-
No, he said something about sending the unit to a specialized shop. I can't recall anything more.
-
I`d rather smash the screen and buy a new one. Sounds easier, although not cheaper.
Life`s a beach -
There actually is a company that offers a service that, for the cost of US$100, plus shipping, it claims will improve the brightness and glossiness of a notebook LCD (I've no reason to doubt that it has some effect); apparently they "repolarize" the surface covering of the LCD, and, it appears, add a high-gloss finish to it. The company's webpage for this service is http://www.screentekinc.com/pixelbright-lcds.shtml#purchase .
-
Or you could just clean your glasses...lol
-
-
it's not like elerons protector, which can be removed and reseated as you see fit -
Yes, that's right, but you don't want to carry extra stuff. That's why you have a notebook.
-
how olds your notebook now?... my 24inch desktop LCD from dell has a sim effect to what your describing ... its always had it i think or it could be a thin layer of dust that build up in the first week just started to realize it more about a month after i got it..
u sure its not your eyes playing tricks on you? i doubt its a dramatic as big formed crystals or a real shapes
have u ever used a LCD before? -
This is getting off topic.
Does anyone know which are the best matte panels to ask for? LG or Samsung, whichever is best. Model IDs please. -
Who are you talking to Heathkidd?
I don't think they carry the matte anymore. You should ask the reseller. -
I've seen matte WUXGA on several notebooks. I'm just wanting to know which people, from experience, think are the best ones for clarity. The reseller will just give me whatever they have in stock that they want to shift. I'd rather hear people's opinions who have used them.
Heathkidd - I'm referring to the "sparkles". See here for a description of what it is:
http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=69723 -
There is no matte offered from Sager resellers for some time. There was never a matte WUXGA on any Clevo.
-
heathkid was talking the OP.
-
-
Well, FTB is (partially) right.
Matte is being phased out by one of the largest Clevo resellers: Sager.
Of course, he should realise that there's more to the world than just Sager
And, to be honest, I haven't seen any company offering a Matte 1920x1200 on the Clevo. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist. But chances are small you'll find an owner who has such a screen. -
I guess so, but you can ask for them specifically if you want one.. but I guess not many people what them.. which is ironic when you think about it, as non-glossy CRTs were very sought after once apon a time.
I do believe many professional people prefer matte for graphics work, which is what I need it for.. must be a certain % of them out there. -
antic.. the effect your talking about i've seen on every LCD i've ever used and yes for graphics work i use my main desktop matte monitor. And despise the fact that gloss is more common on laptops than desktops!!
-
There is no matte WUXGA on any Clevo or at any reseller. I've looked at European resellers, US and even Australian ones. There isn't any.
Kwakkel, I have a point with Sager and I know there are many others, but in US Sager is the main Clevo OEM. Besides Pro-Star and maybe Eurocom there isn't any other as far as I know of.
Nobody said you can't buy one, I just said that they don't offer it anymore. -
FTB, I don't care who offers matte in the world, even if you are 99% correct about it. I asked for help on a specific question and would appreciate if you'd stop hijacking this thread to make your own points. Just accept the fact that I'm getting a matte screen from a Clevo reseller and move on. It's not a personal challenge to your world view.
Heathkidd, totally agree. I'm waiting for the fad to die out, I'm sure it will one day, when people are sick of looking at themselves in a shaving mirror.Anyway I've been told this AUO panel is well regarded, so just waiting for my reseller to get back to me about it. Either that or this LG panel. I think those are the two best options ATM.
-
So where did you get it? just ask them again if they have a different model.
-
-
best of luck.. i'm from Perth Australia also btw... what reseller did u get it from P4 i assume?
its the only perth Clevo reseller i know -
I did see it,but you didn`t answer where you bought this matte WUXGA.
-
http://www.p4laptops.com.au/laptops.htm
i think eleron911 its one of only 2 Australian resellers i think
that and pioneer computers AU -
On both models of the M57RU I saw glossy WUXGA.
-
heh.. yep, www.p4laptops.com.au. This is the unit, it's a great special on at the moment: http://www.p4laptops.com.au/order-m57ru-special.htm
They're a great company, helped me all the way getting the bits and pieces I was after. eleron911, all I did was ask them for a matte panel, it was no problem at all. Even if they don't show it, you can get it.
Hi to the other Perth dude!It still feels bizarre to meet ppl from here on forums the other side of the world.
ok, just for the record...
just so there's no more questions about this very very important point...
you CAN get matte panels from Clevo resellers.
even, I'll wager, Sager..
If you ask specifically for it.
Even.. and this is very important to note... even if they don't advertise it.
I will PayPal anyone $5 if they can prove to me that a Clevo reseller refuses to put a matte screen into one of their laptops when asked to do so.
but somehow.. I feel the matter is still not closed... -
humm yer P4 seem pretty good win a Wii lol and the place u take it for repairs is ITC on hay street city side just as u go over the freeway bridge ... u could drop it off by hand i'm sure.
still i'm a batterylife sucker and have to wait for a m15x or M860TUand to think i love the color orange..
good luck with your LCD'zz good to know u can get matte if u ask.. -
antic, I'm not trying to make a point or whatever you may think. I was just saying...
And your original question has been over-discussed anyways, so I don't see how I'm the only hijacker here...
I never said you can't get matte, just that it's being phased out. Don't think I don't know you can't get it if the reseller wants you to. -
Ohhh nooo you can't backpedal out of it now! "There was never a matte WUXGA on any Clevo." Update your sig baby, coz there's one on mine! I think 95% might be a conservative adjustment.
-
No, I am still right. I was referring to one being sold. You can put any panel if you want to but I have never ever seen one being offered by default to actually buy. Wanna prove me wrong?
-
Ok, matte WUXGA on a laptop sucks.
There you have it
No seriousely, how much did you pay for the matte WUXGA anyway(and what was the standard screen, just for referrence) ...
New M57RU but LG panel is grainy!
