Just finished messing with my new laptop and got a 3Dmark06 score of 9688. Is that any good?

Its totally stock on the CPU & GPU (500/799/1250)

I'm going to try a slight overclock on the GPU and post again.

Does anybody know of a good temp monitor program? I'm still waiting for my key for Everest Ultimate so it won't show temps right now :(

Wow. Thanks for the apps :)

I think the CPU is at 3.06...CPU-z is reporting 1.5ghz :S but I'm guessing because that is at desktop its in greenpeace mode?

I just got 10506 with the GPU at 600/800/1350 and the cpu at 3.06 (I hope)

GPU-z is reporting my GPU at 45c idle, is that ok? Load temps are the important ones though, right?

Also, is there a way to monitor my CPU speed whilst benching? I want to know if my cpu is maxing out

BTW, I would rep but I exceeded my daily allowance...will rep tomorrow

45c is fine as far as i know for the gpu but hopefully someone will clarify that for me. im not too hot on all the technical stuff really.
i dont overclock at all and am not to sure about about monitoring while benching so you will have to wait for replys from more tech savy members.

glad i could help with the application links and thanks for the in advance rep :D

Depends on your power settings as to what speed your CPU will run at idle. I assume when you are looking at CPU-Z you aren't really doin much else so the cpu will only use a 6X multiplier. It only uses as many multipliers as it needs to, when you are running a demanding program it will run up to 11.5X.
You can see in my sig the furthest I have been able to take my GPU with Ntune. Although I usually just run 600/900/1500 it's stable for me and adds a couple of fps.
Your temps are fine just try using hwmonitor or something while you test your GPU max to see the highest the temps.
You can try using RMClock or CPU-Z to monitor your CPU speed. You can also use RMClock to undervolt your CPU to reduce your temps, but you will lose a half a multiplier and 100mhz as it does not support half multipliers. It doesn't affect performance very much but keeps mine running 18 C cooler. Try using the undervolting guide in the forums if you want to do it. It's pretty easy.
Hope some of that helps you.

i forgot to mention this yesterday if you are going to use HD Tune. 57c is the default for HD Tune and you need to re set it to 60c = warn and 65c = danger turn off

Ok, after a bit of tweaking I finally broke the 11k barrier and score 11019 :)

Settings were 605/905/1505 (no v-mods) using the latest Nvidia drivers

I'm going to tweak a bit more, I'm hoping for 11500 but I doubt it. I think I'm near the limit because 3Dmark freezes when I run at 615 core...I'll try to bump the memory and shader clocks and post back later

    @joeking78

dude, can you post your results of HDTune? We have the same HDD and I want to compare, mine is WD Scorpio 320GB 7200. I want to compare the read/write speeds with your HDD. Thanks.

Are these normal results for HDTune:

    ??

And again my temps reaches about 67c when I run error check of my HDD, but the HDD is 100% OK as the error check says so.

I'd only be willing to download the non-pro version and it doesn't show write data in the benchmark (according to the site). I'm not going to pay $35 for a utility I may use once

Ok, that's weird, we have exactly the same model of HDD and almost the same specs of the M860TU, why is yours reaching the expected 87-89 MBps max? Mine reaches only up to 80, what could be the problem?

lol. the one in the bios setting of the mobo, did you enable AHCI? And right click the properties of the HDD in device manager, did you tick enable advanced performance under the enable write caching setting?

Nope. Double click the "Disk drives" under NEXUS and right click your HDD name and click Properties>Advanced. You'll see a box there saying "Enable Advanced Performance". This is for Vista only I think.

If you raise your voltage so you can clock higher, you'll hit at least 11.4k with the right driver. I can get up to 11.250 easily with a healthy overclock. I think it was something like 610/1525/950. I game at these clocks all day.

Make sure the Drive is defragged
Make sure all your drivers are up to date
(I personally use DriverMax easier than looking around various website)
I wouldn't recommend it for Video Drivers but chipset and other ones are fine

This might boost the performance a small amount but don't expect miracles

It is defragged already and I have all drivers up to date, I'm pretty sure they are. What could be the reason why I just get up to 80.4?

    http://registry-repair-software-review.toptenreviews.com/how-to-improve-system-performance.html

Try adjusting the size of the restore point on your hard drive.
Also reduce the max size of the recycle bin from 10% to 1% or 2%.

Cleaning your registry would give either no performance increase or an extremely minor one but i'd recommend:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Advanced_SystemCare_3_d5927.html

The system is new so I wouldn't suspect background processes to be the problem but run msconfig and check startups anyway.
Also its probably not viruses/malware but who knows check it :\

I use the ST932xxxx and my max was 86.4 but it seems you have a different model.

Yup, I have the Western Digital counterpart. Well, I just reformatted this drive and clean installed Windows Vista Ultimate, so I'm not thinking that anything is corrupted.

And I turned off most of the background processes before running HDTune.

Do you think I have a defective drive?

Probably not its not a huge difference.
I still say run DriverMax to see if you have the newest drivers.

It could be the case that have gotten a drive from the lower end of the spectrum.

Your avg/spd is practically the same when compared to mine which is the most important factor.

More importantly your GC is 200 points faster than mine XD which is way more important when gaming so it seems like you got real lucky there

Then its just a slow HD :( You could buy another but its not really worth it as you wouldn't gain that much performance. Just save the money and swap in a SSD drive in a year or two when the prices come down and the capacity comes up. Thats what I plan to do :3

    GC= Graphics Card BTW

Also HD Tune can be variable I regularly get 7mb/s difference in runs of it
Sorry to ask but did you only run it once or was it multiple times you've gotten 80?

I ran it multiple times and constantly getting 80ish. That's why I was hoping that those with the same HDD as mine will post their HDTune results, but there seems to be only theriko at the moment
