That's right, I just saw the pre-order for the NP8662 on xoticpc is now possible! I was going to buy my M860TU with the 9800GTS, but seeing now that I can get for the same price a 1Gb GTX 260M and a 2ghz quad-core, I think I will wait till april. =)

For the lazy buggers out there, here you go.

no cosmetic change though -
Wow and it's less than $1400. Thank you ATi.
-
wow no price increase. when would this bad boy ship?
will the 9800mGTS be available at a lower price? if so, I'd go with that instead.
according to Justin, seems like the only difference here is the Quad Core support. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=4619624 -
Page says ETA Early April.
-
What is the 260m comparable to? 8800M?9800Mgtx?
-
There you have it folks, the newer M860TU revision for quad-core support.
the support for Nvidia GTX 260M is just known already, no new MXM slot in the M860TU. -
Do we know if the M260 is compatible with the old revision?
-
Also i thought the old revision supported the quadcore x9000... -
Yes, but it needs a BIOS upgrade.
-
What does needs a bios update? the quadcore support or the m260??
-
it supported the X9100.... but had issues with the Q9000/Q9100 tests.
pretty much what happened with the first M570TU revision... then the modification for full quad-core support... making it into the M570ETU. -
so can a NP8660 be upgraded with a m260? I heard that there is a different motherboard on the NP8662
-
same motherboard, just small adjustments/modification for fully quad-core support.
same MXM videocard slot. -

From what we know at this time the GTX 260M supposed to drop right into the 8660
Edit: Just as Gophn said. Motherboard was only revised for Quad Support. -
here is official Clevo M86TU BIOS for GTX 260M support.

That is GREAT news!!! Looks like I may be spending a little more money soon.
-
Me too, I can't wait to get hold of this one. I was going to get the original NP8660 but after hearing about this one, particularly quad core, suddenly I'm one of the most patient people on the planet.
-
so what are que quadcore cpus compatible with the old revision?or is there no support at all?
-
Well my NP8660 delivered this week...my money will be on the new video card.
-
according to Clevo, no quad-core CPUs are fully supported in the previous revision.
-
No Quads with our motherboard Blue.
-
its crazy, but i love it....still i like my 17 in sager 5793 but can lean toward a 15in a yr and 1/2 from now.
-
is switching from the P8600 (2.4Duo, 3mb cache) to the Q9000 (2.0Quad, 6mb cache) going to be a significant performance gain? Is it worth the extra $170?
-
you can probably pop a GTX 260M/280M in that system too.
-
Nah the 360M Gtx will be out by then ;D
-
there will be a gain if the programs/games you are using have multi-thread support.
if they are older programs and games, you might notice a performance loss... since those apps/games are probably single-threaded.... depending on clock speed of a single core. -
A 2Ghz 6MB quad, with no option for overclocking, is not good for gamers. Take the P9600 if you're looking to spend more on the processor.
-
If you are gaming I suggest the P8600, maybe even the T9950 or P9600
a lot of games atm do not support quad cores, meaning you will be running with a dual core 2GHz or single core 2GHz...obviously this is not very good. -
newer games coming out and being developed right now are fully supporting quad-core CPUs.... like GTAIV and Unreal Engine 3 games (UT3, Bioshock, Gears of War 1/2, etc...)
-
T9950 that would be nice
But will future games support quad cores and make it so that in a year people will make fun of little M860TUs with dual-cores that can't run COD7? -
Id like to know this too.
-
GTX 260M is a smaller (55nm), higher clocked 9800M GTX (65nm).
500/1250/800 vs 550/1375/950
I'd love to try to overclock one to 675/1650/1100. -
Im having a hard time trying to figure something, if one revision supports quad-core and another doesnt i assume everything else is the same???What about bios versions?
-
Without a doubt, I will be going for the lower clocked quad cores. Even if a game cannot take advantage of the quads, that GTX 260M should still give it enough performance. You may be able to use third party utilities to over clock the quad cores to say 2.26 - 2.5 Ghz.
I think more future games will support more than two cores and of course, games like GTA IV will perform better.
I see it as less being more even though it is more of less. This one will make my 9500m GS look like an old 386 computer. -

Am I seeing this right? The quad core processors cost only $5 more than the P9600? That makes no sense whatsoever.
-
That was Intel's purpose; a budget, low frequency Core 2 Quad. Thus the lowered clock speed and halved L2 cache.
-
i was talking about bios for both motherboards, are they the same?
-
Do you know if higher end Quads will be offered anytime soon? It's theoretically possible right?
-
yes. BIOS's are the same
-
I was wondering if there will be any thermal budget problems if this setup is done with a 2.9 ghz c2d cpu ???
And also will there also be thermal budget problems with the newer GTX260M cards ???
And finally - whats the difference between this setup and the m865tu ???
is the m865tu the system that is revised after this setup ???
A Falling Cat named Spangky
9 Lives only ... -
the m865tu only has outer case aesthetic changes
-
Im wondering if its worth the wait if i send my new np8660 back to get the 260m for the price of a shipping fee...I mean I dont play alot of intense graphics games (L4D is probably my most graphical? game I have..)..hmmmm
-
if you are not hardcore, then its probably not worth it.
-
yeah but just the feeling I have the newest things gets me excited lol..its weird, I still may consider it, but thanks for your input.
-
Shipping doesn't cost much, I say go for it.
-
Wow!
If you can order one with a GTX 280M I'm sold!
I don't see why not, the GTX 260M and the GTX 280M have the same TDP so that would not be a problem.
Through in a Quad core GPU and that would be even sweeter.
New Np8662 with GTX 260M!
