I've had the laptop in my sig for less than 2 weeks and the left speaker seems to have developed this tinny sounding ringing/distortion as you can see here: https://streamable.com/4v93g

It does not happen with headphones, only with the speakers on >20% volume.

Is this normal? I just noticed it today, but it didn't happen when I was testing the speakers a while back after first receiving the laptop.

    Update

Pressing on the grill directly over the left speaker makes the distortions go away: https://streamable.com/1q9hy

So something in the left speaker is loose, which is causing this problem.

Anyone know how to remove the speaker grill?

I'd speak to your reseller and see what they want you to do. If they don't mind you trying to take a look they can guide you through it. Otherwise you might impact your warranty.

The speaker is loose, that's all. Seems like it wasn't screwed in properly. As maeker already pointed out, ask your reseller what do to, so u don't break warranty.

Personally, the speakers are absolute awful, and seeing that you didn't notice until today I assume you don't use them anyways, so you could simply just ignore it. Sending the system in for RMA is a tedious process which takes quite some time.

So it's just a loose screw? That's reassuring. I'll ask my reseller if I can take care of it myself.

I actually do use the speakers every day, but the problem only started this week, so the speaker must've worked itself loose. And I agree, they're not great speakers, but they're pretty loud and far from the worst laptop speakers I've ever heard.

Could also be loose adhesive, not sure how the speaker is build, but something along the lines of that is the issue. Since it can get fixed by your pushing the speaker down it should be rather easy to fix.

I suppose so, I'm used to MSI, L702x and my modded clevo speakers that my standard might be pretty unfair, idk. Let us know how it went.

The speakers are screwed into the top portion of the chassis, IIRC. It could be that something is stuck to them; the magnets attract small metal objects, something could have found its way there. Definitely touch base with your reseller about it.

OT: While we're on the subject of speakers on this unit, what do you usually use as an alternative as it seems like it's not one of the better parts of the laptop?

A good pair of Bluetooth headphones, if you want a dock kind of setup a good Bluetooth speaker.

I have a couple of setups:

Docked: Sony SRS-X7 Bluetooth speakers (wired, BT was giving me latency lag when watching videos), or Sennheiser HD580 + Headroom Supreme Amp or VModa Crossfade LP + boom mic

Portable: Bem Cube Bluetooth or Skullcandy Titan IEMs or VModa Crossfade LP + boom mic

I only use the onboard speakers when I am doing something quick.

Put your hand on the keyboard and see if it makes it go away.

Enough latency to interfere with video, not seen that in a while.

My main cans are a set of Sony xb950bt which have served me well so far.

Nope. Like I showed in the second video, if I press on the grill it goes away, so it's something loose inside the speaker.

Yessir, audio track grows out of sync with the video. Very annoying.
