A question to the retailers out there: Do you have any word on when the 81xx series is expected to support either dual 6970m/485m GPUs in addition to the new SSD drives from Intel (510?), OCZ Vertex 3 etc.?

I'm looking to getting a proper SB-enabled Clevo but with as much GPU power as possible so advance word (if allowed) on a release timetable would be much appreciated.

Not a reseller but I can offer some answers to your questions.

AFAIK the 81xx series will not support Crossfire or SLI. Intel 510 is already available from most of the resellers. Vertex 3 is not yet available.

If you want SB with Crossfire or SLI you will most likely have to wait for the X7200 refresh which isn't anticipated until Q4 IIRC.

Damn, that is a bother. I don't think my current Vostro is going to last until the end of the year and I would like a new laptop before it gives out, especially with the number of great games that are being released by Q2 2011. I suppose a single card solution is safer for compatibility and cost-performance though.

I'm not necessarily angling for a particular SSD brand (the OCZ 25nm debacle is hotly debated on the forums) but I would assume that the new-generation SSD drives would be out by at least Q2 2011?

Intel G3 will be out in a month or so, not the Intel 510. G3 has better random 4k performance, 510 has better sequential performance.

The Crucial C400 will be out soon too. It should be using the same controller as the 510, but possibly better optimized firmware.

Toss up between the C400 and the G3, I'll probably go for the one that provides more space and overall performance since my regular HDD usage with an SSD is likely limited to surfing the internet and my most popular games.

Even the C300 is awesome on SATA III,

I can't imagine how the C400's will perform..

here's a bit of info about the c400

should be hitting shelves mid march so hopeful anand or toms will be getting their hands on one for benching like next week or so :)

going to be delaying the shipment of my rig a bit cuz i'm going to be out of town for spring break so hopefully i'll be able to pick up one of these instead of the 510.
