i am going to buy a new sager around nov 20th,......so i have started to look at various models....i was hoping to keep the price at 800-900 if possible...15.6 or 17....i don,t game a lot, but want something that can if i choose too...also, priority in my book, a great looking display.....i look at it all the time, and i want something nice to look at......no ati video, i run linus a lot...suggest a sager for me?

i have had a asus , hp , ibuypower and dells....i can get a dell off the outlet site with a nice price...but when i look at them at frys electronics...they just don,t get me excited, they look odd.

i quess xotic pc is a good place to buy..

i was also looking at digital storm,,,they look like the same laptop as sager, and has american support

You should consider the Sager NP5160. It's 15.6'' and has Optimus so it's portable and has good battery life. Plus the GT 555M can hold its own again most game at medium. However I don't know how well Optimus is supported on Linux. Also, if aesthetics are important, prepare to be underwhelmed.

Xotic is a fine choice. I bought a 8150 them because they offered good customer service and the best discounts. Frankly though, most Sager resellers are neck and neck in those departments.

Both the NP5160 and NP5165 are good choices for your needs. Really the only difference is the graphics card with the NP5165 has slightly faster one. The problem you could run into is getting Linux drivers to work properly with Optimus. I've heard its a pain but I believe people have gotten them to work ok. The only way to avoid this is to jump up to the next model, the NP8130 but it will start pushing your budget.

Thanks for the kind words tbert03! Glad we could help you out.

Stay away from optimus if you wanna go linux. It can be done but the workaround is worth more effort than not...
