Here is the current thread on this same topic. -
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I'm so excited about this laptop.
Everything about it is amazing! -
Anybody know the battery life?
And 7+ pounds is a bit much. -
That's what she said
-
Damn...GTX280m in a 15(.6)" chassis--
Either yumyum, or oh no (heat)... -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
It should handle 75W TDP cards just fine now. Both the W860CU and W870CU surprisingly have identical parts: motherboard, heatsinks, fans, etc. The W860CU is almost the size of the legacy M570TU now, but with superior cooling.
-
Umm, ok.
I guess that is what she said? If your gonna make a joke, make it good, lol. -
You'd hate my 9262 then. It's over 20lbs with the case (pelican), and I've been lugging it around for a week, lol.
-
I keep forgetting considering that people have made the GTX280 work in their M860TU, Clevo would definitely have addressed the issue in the W860U.
It is very clever of them for putting the 1.73ghz quad. This way M860TU owners don't feel left too far behind.
It's been awhile for me to check posts- what's the overclocking potential of the new notebook? -
IMO - It's never as much as they say so if they say 2 hrs it will be 1.5.
I think I read about an 1.5. Yeah here's a link to it.

Just wondering, how much better/worse is the new mobile i7-720QM compared to the P9700?
-
The i7 720 will be about on par on single and double threaded apps, but it'll win over in multiple threaded apps.
If you want more info there's a thread in the hardware section about i7.
We still need to see real benchmarks and gaming. -
Here are some benchmarks and there against the M9850..

Is it just me, or are the new battery tiny?
Where as AW has 6/8 cell on theirs; even though gaming laptops tend to stay on AC, but a 4 cell? -
Thanks Quadzilla!
Great reading, seems the i7-920XM is pretty darn good
-
The games tested favors the GPU. Although that is what most gamers will experience today, it hardly represents the performance difference between 2.0 vs. 3.33ghz i7 CPUs.
-
Exactly and the extra performance they are seeing is more likely down to the GTX 280M. They should test games like Empire Total War series, Supreme Commander, GTA IV, Microsoft Flight Simulator and any other CPU intensive RTS titles.
-
I love the 280M inside a 15.6", but I heard that these clarksfield cpu's are nothing but bothersome news for gaming laptops (high TDP's for a very minimal performance gains over montevinas if any). Do these processors even OC well? And I'm not talking about that crap they call turbo boost, because that's not overclocking...
-
Considering pickign up this laptop---anyone have input on how large the power brick is compared to the 9201? I need something that can actually be carried around compared to that behemoth.
-
I'm going to get the next iteration of this laptop that has the newer nvidia gt300 series. I ALMOST caved and got this one but I had to exercise some will power for once
-
Any rumored ETA on the GT300M's at all going around these days?
-
Where'd you hear that? I've read nothing but good things about these processors..
-
Early to mid december for the desktop versions. Hopefully we see the mobile GT 300 by jan-feb. -
Given nVidia's track record, I'm not getting my hopes up for a true GT300 mobile card anytime soon. I think there is a good chance it will be a GT200 rebrand.
Hopefully they will change their ways. -
My problem with gaming notebooks in general is that even today, they are still so underpowered despite their corresponding hardware models. I saw tests with the new calpella cpu's and a 65nm C2D for desktop with an 8800gtx card still beat the 200m series today (I don't remember if they were testing with the 260m or 280m), but that's just nothing short of disgraceful in my opinion...
-
Desktops and laptops are not a fair comparison.
Calling them underpowered is not fair and far from the truth.I can play any game very well on my current laptop thanks.
Just have to find the right hardware.
Of course desktops will always be more powerful but then again they are a pain when you want to take them with you
-
You are comparing a gaming notebook that has very limited internal space, has to fit a high performance GPU, a high performance CPU, Wifi, HDD, battery and every other component including a display into a small chassis that remains at a reasonable temperature to a Desktop that does not have such space restrictions, can have massive water cooling systems / fans, a beefy power supply and a 10'000 rpm harddrive that also has plenty of space to keep cool.
Gaming notebooks are amasing when you consider what they do. Regardless of whether they are underpowered or not, the fact is on my notebook I have been able to play 3D intensive games at high settings, high resolutions and with good temperatures where ever I pleased and more importantly with great performance.
The technology might have improved quicker and be even more advanced but the fact is, gaming notebooks are still a niche when compared to desktops. -
My 280M and QX9300 is easily on par, if not better than an OC'd 8800 GT and Q6600 machine, so no complaints there.
GT300 is DX11, so it will not be just a GT200 rebrand. Simple as that.
