hey guys just orderd a sager 5793 from xotic. I could not pass up this deal as i was looking for something with a bigger screen and more gaming ability i currently own

    XPS M1530 - Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache
3GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1440x900
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
    160GB 7200rpm SATA

and am now going to this

Sager NP5793 17" WUXGA "Glare Type" Super Clear Ultra Bright Glossy Screen (1920x1200)
    Intel® T9300 45nm "Penryn" Core™2 Duo 2.5GHz w/6MB L2 On-die cache - 800MHz FSB
    4,096MB DDR2 667 PC2 5300
    320GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 16MB Cache

clearly this is going to be a huge upgrade. the only thing my xps has that the sager does not is a HDMI port which makes no sense to me since the sager has the blueray player.. go figure

funny thing is i paid more for my xps then i did the sager. so now i will probably give my girl the xps for xmas. probably too much computer for her anyways lol

I will be putting vista ultimate on this machine here soon and possibly a sound card upgrade. can someone reccomend a good one for me.

also do you guys have any help as far as ugrading drivers or settings on vista to make this run smooth for me?

i use this for online poker and dvd's/music as well as some games like farcry.

thanks and cant wait to be apart of the crew
    :D

Great, congrats on your new buy :)

We should really make a single sticky thread were all new sager owners can post. No offence to the OP, but I'm getting tired of seing the forum being spammed with these threads.

The reason the 5793 does not have hdmi is that it is an old model. Its replacement (the 5796) has hdmi and esata.

You didn't mention which gfx card you're getting...?

yeah the hdmi thing dosnt bother me that much since i have a ps3 and use that for my tv. even though this might be a dated model. its still the best bang for the buck i could find in the 17" gaming laptops

    this is the video card
    512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 9800M GTS DDR3 DX10

Congrats on the machine. :) The Sager NP5793 is a great platform.

There are people that will say it's old technology, but the reality is that there is an insignificant performance difference between the NP5793's Santa Rosa platform and the newest Montevina 'Centrino 2' platform. So you made a good buy. :)

Congrats i recently got the same deal and its a great machine.

I bought a DVI->HDMI cord from newegg for like $10. There is absolutly zero quality loss. The only difference is the cord doesnt have sound.

I use this for gaming on my 40" LCD tv. I just hook a pair of 2.1 speakers to it and im good to go. If you have a speaker system for your tv im sure you can hook that into your laptop as well.
