what's the difference between this and the 5796?
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
This model has a motherboard update to accommodate mobile quad-core processors.
-
****, now I feel bad for those who bought the 5796. Hope a fast one like that isn't pulled on the m860tu.
-
Is the qx9300 overclockable?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
^^ Yes, the QX9300 is overclockable. (it will have the x1 or x2 multiplier in bios)
-
How soon will the resellers have these?
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
The Sager NP5797 will start shipping this week.
-
Dah, and it was the quad that I returned my system for this one for... should have waited... Oh well, I"m still happy with my system
A 2.9-3GHz Quad in a mobile system is a formidable solution.
So the ONLY thing different between the 5796 and the 5797 is a different pinout on the motherboard? They should even be using the same .09 BIOS, if I am correct. -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
^ The only thing different is a motherboard revision that enables the Quad Core. We should have more details on what has been modified with the new 5797 motherboard tomorrow.
-
Very cool. Thanks for keeping us updated, Justin. Quad core in a mobile system is big news
-
Any sense for price difference 5797 vs 5796?
-
I got x9100 to be able to run (in a fastest possible way) 3D real time simulations. I, personally, don't see any use of a quad core in a laptop. If your app is really parallelized (and 90% chance that it isn't) you might see some improvement. Otherwise it will be slower, since quads are slower (per core)...
-
Na, so many people these days dog on quads, but I've rarely ran into an application that does not utilize the four cores. Many apps developed in the dual core era were designed as multi core apps, and could scale if more cores were presented. In fact, the only app I"ve ever used that only utilized two cores on my quad core system was a GPS coord converter.
-
Meh, im happy with my 5796, I just bought it a month or so ago, but I bought it with a dual core because it was what I could afford at the time, lol.
No hard feelings here towards Sager/Clevo, but at least now we know why that BIOS update came out. -
man clevo always does this. i know how i fealt when i got mine then a month later the new one came..
-
great news.
-
I hate to say it, but someone else mentioned this a long time ago and he was right...
-
Hmm, I wonder who that was...
-
happened to me too! bought a 5792, and a month and half later the 5793 came out. lol.
-
Same here, but I swapped mine in for a reasonable upgrade price (including better cpu/gfx/ram/hdd/bt)
-
wow, this new model looks quite enticing. I luv the way technology just flys by. My only question, which is mostly off-topic is; 9263 in the future? or completely new 17" dual GPU beast?
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
As of yet, a new 17" like the 9262 or a 9262 upgrade is unknown.
-
Is the the NP5797 overclockable via BIOS directly from Sager? What is the maximum clock speed? Around 3.0GHz? Side by side with the 9262 and the same clock speed w/ Quad-cores, will they perform similarly?
-
They won't match the newest Q9XXX desktop cpu's, but they should be equal to or even better than the old Q6XXX cpu's.
-
hey veeuzuky, what happen?
-
The 5797 is only overclockable via bios if you have an extreme series processor (ie one with an x in its name - x9100/qx9300)
-
What I'm really wondering is what the exact motherboard change is from the 5796 to 5797. Has anyone actually tried seeing if quad-core chip will work in a 5796?
-
The OCZ Whitebook is a better set-up than this IMO. Sager needs to revamp its product line beyond a minor refresh to existing offerings.
-
The Quad cores will not work in a 5796. Tried and tested failure.
-
Why exactly? Is it just because quads take more power? Any way for 5796 owners to mod/hack their machine into using quads? I've been looking around a lot for any answer to this and can't find one.
-
you would need to know how to code the acpi portion of the bios to get it to run a quad core. (speculation of course)
-
Because manufactureres make much more money selling mini-updates to new hardware that forces you into buying a whole new laptop than being able to upgrade an existing one. So goes business and our wallets...
Yes, but the OCZ Whitebook (actually an Arima W840-DI) is limited to ATI graphics, and worse, Vista... its dead right there, twice! -
I thought the recent BIOS update took care of that?
I know...
Would be awfully cool to find a way to do it though. I wish there was some info out there on exactly what changes they made or some detailed specifications for both motherboards. -
that's why it's speculation...knowing me...i would have probably flashed my bios with the one supporting quads. then tried to run one to make sure it was going to work.
-
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Actually, it can support both NVIDIA graphics and XP. -
Will there be a single Nvidia GPU offering for the OCZ Whitebook or is that not going to happen at this point? Have the XP bugs been worked out and are the drivers, etc. readily available--some vendors are offering special drivers and regular updates...? -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
The OCZ was originally supposed to be offered with a single 8800 or 9800 GTX, but there's no ETA. The main problem with XP has been installing the video drivers, but that can be cicumvented by downloading desktop drivers and using a mobility modder.
-
The recent bios update supports the new mobo that supports the quads.
The quad cores have the same physical pin layout as the dual cores, but the electronic (logical) pinout is different. In the quad spec, any mobo that supports quads can logically remap its pin config to take either a dual or quad core (5797) but motherboards that were designed for dual-core before the quad core spec was finalised won't be able to remap its pin config (5796). Clevo pushed the 5796 out too fast to wait for the full quad spec and it bit them in the a**. -
>.> so why isn't the 5797 being offered with dual core?
-
^it is-5796
-
I would expect that they are trying to get rid of their stock of 5796's before selling the 5797 with duals
-
NP5797!?!?!? with QUAD CORE!!! oh man, i knew it i should wait for mine... you foul devil for seducing me to buy it early!! Ughh!!... but hey the only difference is the Processor so the graphic and gaming performance is more or so the same right? what about cooling? is it much better at cooling that you cant even feel the heat LOL,
the NP5796 is already cool as it is..... and new model... its good news to me but... somehow i feel and empty space inside my heart .... oooooo mannnnn XD XD XD XD
i guess upgrading is out of the question huh~~~ i die a little bit inside as i read on about the new model
-
funny.... i thought you said you had your np9262 over clocked to 3.2 ghz and had it as high as 3.6 ghz, but it wasn't stable. and you said you used cpucool to do it. and you also said that you run it fine at 3.2 ghz with your qx9650 from your desktop computer.
so basically that was all nonsense then? -
? Excuse me? Non-sense what that Im getting a NP5797 is a non-sense to you because u tried to use a qx9650 yourself on your and it didnt work? Since when getting a new laptop turns into non-sense how one runs an older one? Odd assumption my friend
As for specifics, what I have is a QX9650 running at 3.2GHz without any problems, workable at 3.4GHz but never fully stable to complete extensive benchmarks and reaching 3.6GHz but without any stability. Those are the specifics. And please, do not turn this thread into a de-compilation of your "funny" views on whatever matter concerns the configuration of my NP9262 that FYI many European dealers sell with the QX9650 as a stock configuration (not Sager as we know). Thank you.
-
moved to your old thread.
-
Who else have order this notebook beside VeEuzUKY and I? Mine will be delivered on Dec 10.
-
Wow, your lucky man your gonna get the up to date version
So basically the 5797 just change the CPU right? no improvement in cooling? -
Shane@DARK. Company Representative
Correct, the only change has been in the motherboard. -
well thats a bit relieve, im already satisfied with mine lolz...
