Is it just me or do the new W860CU's coming out now come with Lite-ON PSU's?

And is it normal for the PSU to whine when the laptop is off and the PSU is only working as a battery charger? Something to do with those infamous capacitor whine again?

Yeah I don't understand why I have a Lite-ON. My first W860CU from them (bought last December) had a Li-Shin PSU.

So is this normal having received a Lite-ON?

My 8760 came with a Lite-On as well, thought It was strange since everyone talks about a Li-Shin. I use my 160 watt most the time anyway. Can't tell you whether mine whines or not.

The whining sound is caused by resonances that occur at a audible Frequencies of the Inductor cores. Nothing to worry about really.

I also got the Lite-ON. Ordered the 8690 around April 20th.

Are these supposed to be inferior? I had one with my NP5760 and it didn't do the capacitor whine until about 2 years after having it. Otherwise, it has worked fine.

I don't know if they are considered to be inferior but mine whines most of the time although there are times that it is completely silent.

Don't know what the problem is since the Li-Shin PSU I had was dead silent.

RJTech told me that the PSUs shipped by Clevo are now Lite-ON ones. I don't understand why Clevo does this. It maybe because of availability of components or such.

It’s mostly likely availability problem. With the world economy slowing picking up it is having a major impact on electronics parts. I at work have some IC’s right now that went from a lead time of 8 weeks to over 23 weeks. In this case you take what you can get. The Lite-On should be fine.

Makes sense. Every laptop that I've had used Lite-ON so they aren't terrible. My Inspiron 8200's PSU is still going strong after 8+ years.
