Hey I just got my new Sager NP5760. Anyway do you guys know of some tweaks I should to get it to perform the way it was meant to?

For example I already did the dual-core hotfix for Windows XP. But isn't there something else I'm suppose to do like with getting my processor to run 997Mhz to the full 2.00Ghz?

And do I need to install any video card drivers or am I alright?

    Thanks guys.

You can use updated graphics drivers. You can also defrag your hard drive, if you havent done so already.

    thats normal.
mobile CPUs usually run at full about 1000mhz when there is idle use or on battery, the CPU speed will go full speed dynamically when you are doing something that requires that much CPU power.

Make sure that if you leave it on all the time to:
    * go to Power Options and...
    - set the Hard Drive to turn off after 10-15 min of idle

OR, just shut it down when its not going to be used.

the harddrive is usually the first component to fail because it is used to most and like other components, heat will cause its lifespan to be shortened.

so leaving a computer on all the time might seem okay when the unit is new, but overtime, you will see that its lifespan will be shortened.
    simple physics and electronics:
(heat, in electronic/machinery, has usually been the variable that decreases efficiency)
heat + electronics = bad for components over time

Speaking of this sort of stuff, what's the recommended setting for the "Turn off monitor" setting in there? Are there any wear over time issues with that? What's the actual power draw of leaving it on (plugged in)? I ask because it's very frustrating that when it turns off the monitor I can't get it to come back without closing the lid (and hence putting it into sleep mode) and reopening.

yea, you should set the monitor to turn off when idle for about 10-15 min as well. The LCD panel also has a lifespan that can be improved by turning it off when not being used.

I also set the Lid when closed to Do Nothing, because its usually set to Sleep/StandBy, which i find to be annoying, i rather just close the lid and have it set to turn off the HDD when idle and still open the lid when i want to use it right away.... rather then waiting for it to wake up from sleep/stand-by.

    alright thanks

would downloading and running 3D marks be a good indicator of how much power i'm getting?

3DMark06 is a great benchmark for current gaming systems to compare to others similar configs. Run it all with default settings, and post your scores to compare.

I believe that the current 3DMark06 score for Clevo M570U (w/ 7950GTX) is about 5500.

Really? I thought it was better to keep it spinning, as most of the wear and tear on a hard drive came from accelerating it when powering it on?

    its engineering and mechanical knowledge:

heat = a inefficient variable in electronics and machines

so if you leave your harddrive constantly spinning, it probably wont die-out, but will cause the lifespan to be shortened... like a tire on a car or bike, keeping it always in spin will wear down the lubrication and cause friction... which cause heat.... which cause damage over time.

this is always debated for some reason, but its technologically common sense. Take a Physics course, you will see the horrors of heat needing to always be a factor to account.

    Hibernation mode =
    - This feature turns off the whole computer but saves an image file on the hard disk so that the session is restored the next time the user start Windows. Note also that it takes longer time to "wake" the computer from hibernate mode, this because the computer is turned off completely as described above.

    Stand By mode =
    - Only hard drives and monitors are turned off at Stand by.

You said something about "updating video drivers" earlier, Gophn. In your experience what drivers would be the best? This is my first nvidia card so i really dont know much about the various versions available.

I started to but i didnt get past his post of this:

This guide applies to ATI Radeon and Nvidia GeForce cards, but does not apply to ATI FireGL or Nvidia Quadro cards, nor Nvidia integrated graphics cards (Nvidia Go6150). ATI Integrated graphics are supported but there are special instructions

you have a Nvidia Geforce 7900 GTX (dedicated, not integrated).

so you can just get the LaptopVideo2Go drivers

Ahh, I learn something new everyday. For some reason i had the idea stuck in my head that it was integrated.
