I do not own a Sager/Clevo model laptop, yet, I've been looking at the NP8690 and 8760 models and they look very promising but they're about $1,550 and $1,660 each respectively with the configurations I have put into them on various sites, all the same prices obviously.
But I read some reviews from late 2009 when these models dropped and they were then starting off at around $1700 and $1900. Since then they have gone down considerably, while their specs are still quite relevant, and I just wanted to know if with the inclusion of new models in the coming months will the prices of these two particular Sager models continue to go down? Are there any new Sager/Clevo models that will be released in the next 6 months that could knock these models down in price again? I'm in no hurry as of now to buy this laptop but I will need one at the latest in mid 2011, but buying right now or by the end of 2010 is preferred if there will be no change.

Basically should I wait for prices to go down?

    Thanks for any help

They just released the NP8850, which explains the recent price drop. There have been no news about a new model, but I would expect Clevo to update the NP8760 and NP8690 with the GTX 460M (and possibly the GTX 470M as well). That's the lasest news we have.

That's something I found odd in the configuration for these two models you could add $75 to 'upgrade' to a GTX 280 but isn't the ATI 5870 slightly if not considerably better?

That has always been the case. Nvidia parts are always more expensive, even in the desktop market. You can look around the owner's lounge and look at comparisons between the two cards. From there you can make an informed decision.

What about that X7200 monster? When is that supposed to release or do we not know yet?

lol, Nvidia, they aren't doing too great. They have less bugs in games often, but ATI kills in power and price, plus they got DX11 long before Nvidia. Once devs start writing more for ATI chips they'll completely crush Nvidia. That's my take on it at least.

Im in a similar boat - I'm hoping for an update to the 8690 chassis with the 460m, perhaps in a thinner form factor if they can figure out a way to keep the temperatures down.

Do you think the highest end models now like the Sager NP9285 and NP8120 will be down in price in about a year to the price the 8690, 8760, and 8850 models?

Because I can wait until mid 2011 before I buy and if those models will go down that is what I would rather buy.
