From the PDF File of the drivers:
Hope this helps. -
well... I make tests with some drivers. look:
NO GPU overclock (its by defect). 9800M GTX, ID 0806.
GTA IV :
1440X900
High
The Highest
42
70
100
8
Fraps: 13 hour, day; running bench in game 3 min. Average fps.
Crysis:
1900x1200
Quality: high or very high (CCC L4)
Directx 10
64bits
Temps:
Max temp playing Crysis game 15 min.
notes:
179.28 has PhisyX 8.09.04. without phisyx option in Control Panel. why???
180.48 has PhisyX 8.10.13. phisyx in Control Panel.
180.84 has PhisyX 8.10.13. phisyx in Control Panel.
181.00 has PhisyX ?.??.??. phisyx in Control Panel.
(to install 179.28 original nvidia driver I need the file inf from laptopvideo2go, becouse the driver does not support my GPU)
despite the fact that the 179.28 gets better score on the 3Dmark06 (+ 150 points), my feeling is that the 180.84 runs games a little more smoothly.
also max temps are the same.
so my conclusion is that I prefer the 180.84. I am not going to make overclock by now
what is your opinion?
greetings. -
Maybe you'd see better results from a native installation without laptopvideo2go's modded inf (not saying they're no good, I'm just thinking of how nvidia's optimum settings would be).
Also, did you remove everything before installing or just install directly? I'm trying to figure out what to do with this Ageia physx software that installed with UT3. -
yes. a remove everything before installing each driver. physix and nvidia driver.
uninstall, safe mode, driver sweeper, etc... -
I was able to install it on Windows Vista x64 with my 9800M GTX (0608) by adding these 2 lines to the \display\nvam.inf file:
%NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0608.1% = nv_G8x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0608&SUBSYS_04811558
NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0608.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTX" -
The latest PhysX is 8.11.18. LV2Go has a link to them.
The PhysX option showing up in the control panel is exclusive to the 180 drivers, so you'll have to access it through the Nvidia tab in the Windows Start Menu. -
jarinawer:
you fps are way to close to say one is better than the other. if it was more like 4 to 100 depending on settings. then maybe. but in your case...they are way to close to say one is better than the other.
i just ran them drivers again and got a 14,965 for stock 3dmark06. so it means that they are pretty good..even though they do lower you cpu score a bit...im working on trying to find out why that is though.... -
the fps are very similar. the 179.28 gets good result on 3dmark06. but i think that in games, the 180.xx is a little better (or I feel that).
its my opinion. -
thanks! -

Anyone else having sound issues after installing the new drivers? Playing UT3 some of the sounds will randomly turn off, especially weapon sounds, leaving only the woman's voice for warnings.
-
Is it true that the 180.8x drivers increase the GPU temperature compared to the 180.7x version? If so, I might "downgrade" to .7x version.
-
Has anybody with 8800 gtx sli been able to play GTA4 at an acceptable frame rate with this new driver?
-
-
ok I am confused about all these driver update, this and that..
I am on stock driver since I bought this laptop. What I need is in game performance. What driver should I update? I need more information that I can understand lol -
Stock drivers are terrible for performance. Install these new ones. Just go to nvidia and download the notebook drivers.
-
which one?
-
Nvidia 179.28 I believe...they were just released a few days ago
-
Any mention of these new official notebook drivers on the Kobalt forums, anyone? Are they endorsed by Neil and Andrew there? Can't spot anything on their forums...
-
I ran 179.28 driver on Sager NP5797 Geforce 9800M GTX, it said "The NIVIDA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware." What is that ? I thought it was compatible.
-
-
I must use the file inf from laptopvideo2go. -
You have propably a 9800M GTX with device ID 0608 instead of 0617 like I have. Just read a couple of posts back in the thread and there I posted a solution.

Installed these drivers yesterday and got a boost of over 300 in 3DMark06 compared to the stock drivers. Seems to be working pretty well
-
My take on the 179.28 driver:
Pros:
Speeds in 3DMark06 and the Crysis benchmark are very good (as high as any other driver I've tried). [Crysis fps=32.46, 1920x1200/dx9/High]
With limited testing, rendering and stability seem OK. (I saw more artifacts in the Crysis benchmark runs than usual, but not in actual gameplay)
Temps are good.
Micro-stutter is low. Average frame time variation in a typical Crysis static scene is about 13% of average frame time.
Cons:
One game ("Two Worlds") that worked with several other drivers, wouldn't open with this driver. Edit: Ater a reinstall this game worked OK.
Applications/Games on my computer, for which nVidia 3D settings profiles already exist, are not automatically detected, and an error occurs when I attempt to add one.
Although I can create an OC profile, GPU-G/nvTray don't indicate that the clocks actually change after I switch to that profile. (Perhaps I'm doing it wrong... Control Panel Help is quite terse.) -
I have created a few OC profiles as well and sometimes when I open Ntune it shows clocks as stock so I run 3dmark 06 and see that its still overclocked.
Then other times it shows the correct clocks....I dunno some kinda bug I guess -
-
when you change your clocks. what does gpuz show them as?
-
For some reason I thought that the clocks had to be changed on only one card when running SLI, but that didn't work for me. When I OC both cards, both GPU-Z and nvTray show the change, and I can see the difference in Crysis and 3DMark06 scores. -
Got a problem with the driver on an external monitor. I can choose max 30hertz on the telly and the GPU runs 10C hotter on idle. They will probably fix this since its just a beta driver?
A more general question about hertz on my telly: It is 100hz compatible. But when I leave "hide modes that this monitor cannot display" checked, the 100hz isnt among the alternatives. Can it damage the TV or my laptop (do not use this monitor) to use the 100hz option when it says the monitor cant display? But it is a 100hz TV.
