    Hi all,

Have just picked up a great deal on a 3840qm processor for my p370em with 7970m cfx , which had before a 3610qm in it.

I know the bios of clevos won't let me overclocking but I can now with the intel extreme software, which allows small changes to the multiplyers on 1 core, 2 core , 4 core etc.

    I think it is set to 38 x for 1 core , 37 for 2 and 3 and 36 when using all 4 .

My question is , can some one advice me on a safe optimum value to use, rather than experimenting for hours - I am lucky my laptop is running really well and cool - I have done the foil trick and as a result my temps rarely go above 77 c on the graphics, and the system is really stable.

I am currently experimenting with benchmarking and have got some excellent results, which I will post her once I have finished, so won't run the high clocks all the time.

So in summary, if some one could give me some overclocking values to use for my new processor that hopefully won't crash the system, please advise :)

the 3840qm sports a partly unlocked multiplier, enabling u to up the frequencies for 1/2/4 cores by a maximum of 400 mhz. generally, that is still way inside the safety zone, so just use intel xtu and go all out with those 400 mhz :) as long as ur temps are fine, u should be alright! enjoy that beastly rig! :p

    I have a 3840QM also.

Can tell that you can just max the multiplier, and check your temps, if it gets to hot it will shutdown, but i think this wont happen.
You will always be bound to the 45/55Watt cycle so whatever multiplier you choose, it will always try to max out his TDP (higher clock is more certain that you hit these limits.
Put the time windows for the power boost on 56, you can set this higher, i wont happen because they are hardware locked @ 56 seconds... (to bad).
these means always go back to the 45watt limit after 56sec what's to bad :(.
sandybridges dont have these locks, or anyway my asus doesnt have it, can run it all day on 55watts, ivy bridge wont do this.

    I have now
all multiplier on 40x and with a Bus speed 104,5, I found out that increasing the bus speed and then do a reboot, gives you a slightly higher TDP, from 45>47watts and the benchmarks i run confirm this.
I say play around, because there is little bit more juice in then it's have it stock
And ivy bridges love higher memory clocks also....

Once you've gotten your clock speeds adjusted get prime95 to stress test to check for good temps.
