    Hey all,

Figured i'd post up. Been lurking for a good while but recently registered. I've ordered my new system from Mythlogic which will be as follows:

3820qm, 72% matte display, 12gb 1600, Killer 1202, Crucial 256gb SSD + Seagate 750gb Hybrid. Lid will be painted pearl white w/ the Myth logo in black.

I had originally ordered it with the 7970m, but after reading all the horror stories on here, I opted to swap that out for the 680m. I am currently using an ASUS G73JH with the Radeon 5870M, and I remember the headache and a half it caused w/ BSOD, etc before the drivers worked out (and I found this place to get the vBIOS fix).

My ASUS still runs most everything at max (or close to it), but I will be handing it down to my fiancee. The new system is my gift to myself for spending a year deployed. 2 months to go!

Anyways, just a brief intro as well as thank you for all the help you have all provided me in my decision process (and repairs on current system). think I'll stay a while.

    Edit: For system specs

sounds like a great machine. id potentially opt for a larger ssd because i filled up my 256g pretty quick. I just wanted so many new games when i got my new machine! anyway, please please please post a pic of that lid when you receive your machine cuz it sounds freakin sweet!

    @ Jaug: Thanks
@ fen: I most definitely will post pics when able. I'm still a little over 2 months away from being back state-side, but maybe Myth will send me some pics to gawk at until then. As for the 128gb. It is solely my OS drive. Everything else will be installed to the 750. Down the road I may change up to a mSATA OS drive w/ dual SSD raid 0, but im not planning that any time soon.

Sounds like a awesome machine. Imo the 680M, at this point, is definitely the way to go.

Glad your tour is almost done. Thank you for your service and stay safe.

Does the hybrid drive make a noticeable difference? I hemmed and hawed over whether it was worth the extra scratch and eventually voted the plan off the island.

In my mind no, They are not worth it. They are a great idea theoretically, but they just don't live up to it. SSDs are just that much better and HDDs are just that much cheaper.

Thats not totally accurate. Once your Hybrid knows whats programs are always being use, it will load that to the 8 GB cache. In my case I will have my steam, instant messenger and other tiny little programs. Those that get loaded with the boot up process, should always stay on the solid state part. In top of that I have my 750GB of space to keep my steam games and media. So its a really a win/win situation. My goal was to keep my boot up process fast.

Will it get it right away not, I will have to reboot my computer 5 times or so for the Seagate hybrid drive to know what to put on the solid state side of things.

Hope that helps you being more inform.

AnandTech - Seagate 2nd Generation Momentus XT (750GB) Hybrid HDD Review

This is a great review of the drive that helped me make my decision.
It's not as fast as a Full time SSD but you cant buy a 750 SSD for under 150.00 either. Another way to look at it, its the fastest 750 GB platter drive out there.

    Well,

After reading a bit more, I have made two changes.

    1) I removed the 128gb Crucial M4 SSD and replaced it with the 256gb M4 SSD
    2) I upgraded to the Seagate 750gb hybrid

I am pretty well certain that after these changes, my friends over at Mythlogic won't be getting any more on-the-fly changes/upgrades. Thanks for the info joeel. That actually works out perfectly since my 750 is going to be my primary for my steam, origin, gw2, etc. launchers and games while the SSD will be my OS/application drive.

The 256GB SSD is a great upgrade, and you'll have a lot of space for more than just The OS and apps!

    Maybe the "loading" heavy games

Yeah. I'll likely put my GW2 over on the SSD

Congrats, should be a great machine, and the extra attention Mythlogic puts into making sure it works right when you get it is worth the extra $$ IMHO.
Matte screen, SSD, 680m ...

Absolutely! And truth be told, that difference only came to about $50. The amount of service and support I have received from Myth (pre and post-order), the fact that they hand-build & test, and the lifetime upgrade plan well outweigh the minimal savings I would have gotten buying a re-badged sager from elsewhere. I look forward to doing business with Mythlogic for many years to come.
