Hey guys, here is a fun topic for any of us looking to buy the next best laptop (in my case 5th in 18 months, I sell my old ones, so I dont lose money) anyway getting back into the topic. I am planning on buying a sager/satori on black friday from either xoticpc or malibal. My question is
1 does anyone know when ivy will arrive for notebooks? is it worth the wait from sandy i7 2.2 quad ? ( I am thinking Feb 2012 should be available )
2 nvidia 28nm kepler and AMD 7000 series when will they arrive? worth the upgrade from 6990M? (I am thinking late jan feb availability)
3 I will have a sandy i7 quad and amd 6990M if I dont decide to wait. so my question really is should i wait or just buy this. If I do buy I wont upgrade for another 8 -12 months for sure.
4 I am thinking the upgrades will reduce the size of laptops a tiny bit (expecting sager/clevo to release a refreshed chasis design), run a lil cooler and ofcourse performance gain![]()
5 dont tell me you have to wait till CES 2012 to find out!![]()

I would wait until we know for sure the MXM standard doesn't change. But do what ever you want, its your cheddar

I believe the next Intel processors come out in March '12, also there has been confirmation of models having backlit keyboards. Another member here (closer to Clevo) mentioned that the next gen Nvidia cards (6xxM series) should have the same MXM slot.

How does 2960xm mobile quad core 8 thread cpu compare to "desktop" sandy bridge E, 3820 ?
Basically, i want for my next laptop, sli, lighted keyboard, and a way to use a lower power gpu when not playing games, so that i may stay on battery a lot of time when not plugged in.
Basically something along the lines ofnvidia optimus coupled with high end SLI gpus.
SInce sandy bridge extreme doesnt have an incorporated gpu, i think my next best bet is m18 r2, since r1 has a forced gpu switching, as there is momentary no optimus coupled with a high end sli option. -

2. No definite release date, but you can be assured that Nvidia and AMD will do whatever it takes to release the new chips around the same time as Ivy Bridge release.
3. That question will always depend on your needs. Technology is always changing and even if you wait for Ivy Bridge and Kepler/7000 series, Haswell and Maxwell/8000 series will be waiting around the corner.
4. Wouldn't be surprised if they used the same size chassis for their next gen notebooks.
Next gen intel, nvidia and AMD
