    Hello everyone,

I am trying to get my HDMI output working with my TV. The video part works fine. However, no sound is registering. I checked in the control panel and there is no option for HDMI, even with all devices shown. Does anyone know how to solve this issue?

    Thanks in advance.

    Check under Playback Devices.
Right click on the volume icon on the taskbar.
    Open Playback Devices.
Right click on the list menu, click "show disabled" and "show disconnected devices".
You should be seeing the Digital Playback device (it can be the HDMI or the SPIDIF, depending on the machine).
    Enable it.
    Connect everything.
    Check sound options.
If you want, check for HDMI options in your video card control panel (the AMD or Nvidia one).
    You should be having sound.

    +rep plz.

While being helpful is great b0b, asking for rep is against forum rules ;) It's also worth checking you have the hdmi sound drivers installed, you can find them separately on the realtek website.

It's possible that the wiring within the cable for the audio transmission is bad. Try the driver as Meaker suggested, and if that doesn't get you sound output, then keep the updated drivers, and try another HDMI cable (version 1.4, preferably, since your Sager supports it).

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies. I doubled checked that all possible devices are being shown when the HDMI cable is plugged in. Still no luck. Checked for the most recent Realtek audio drivers, but everything is up to date. I'll look for a v1.4 HDMI cable. It's surprising that no one else has this issue. If it matters, my TV is a 2012 Vizio.

did you manually set the HDMI playback device as default? i think that's what bob was suggesting, but you have to click 'set default' as opposed to enabling it like you'd do in device manager. tv/cable shouldn't matter if video is working.

what it shows depends on the hardware/driver. if you don't have any AMD hardware then it won't say AMD. the machine i'm on right now says "Digital Audio (HDMI)" for example.

what are you trying to set up? are you experiencing an issue similar to OP's? even if you have the 7970 it's fed through the intel integrated graphics so to that extent yes, you use intel.

yes, you're correct. you don't need AMD. :D your HDMI output will work without setting up anything AMD. in any event OP was asking about audio so the TV icon which represents that particular audio "device" is a little misleading.

i saw it shows 'amd hdmi output' next to the tv icon. so i think it will show 'intel hdmi output' if using intel solely? did u try this?

also, i notice there is 'ATI HDMI Audio Device' driver at realtek website, so if i want to use amd for gaming and output through hdmi, i must install this driver?

It's just a driver organisation thing, all the display ports are wired into the intel integrated graphics anyway, the AMD card will only power up if it's needed.

No, these days the AMD drivers come with the audio drivers in one package. That used to be different, you would only get the video drivers from ATI and you had to get the audio drivers from Realtek.
