I've done some searching on the forum for an answer to this, but couldn't find any answers. Though it appears to be a common problem.
My 9280 has the nVidia GTX280M and has the latest nVidia 280M drivers. I am running Windows 7 Pro (64).
I do not see an HDMI option when I go to the "Sound" options in the control panel. My previous experience with Vista tells me that there should be such an option there.
I have loaded ALL the W7 drivers and applications that are available at the Sager download page.
Further, the nVidia control panel doesn't appear to have any audio options. So, that's no help.

I have also tried booting up the notebook with the HDMI cable attached to my TV to see if Windows would detect it and create the audio option - but no luck.

    Anyone have any ideas?

its there as "digiral output", not HDMI

if the only thing you see under sound is speakers, try right clicking and checking the disconnected and disabled devices.

    Thanks for replies.
Yes, I see just 2 listings in the sound applet. Speakers and the RealTek Digital.
I know I need to see an HMDI option there.

Thanks for the link to the other thread. I somehow missed that one in my previous search. As that person did, I installed the latest nVidia driver from the Sager site (instead of the nVidia site). While that resolved the problem for him, it didn't help me. After installing it, I rebooted and connected the TV via HDMI. I see video on the TV, but I still have no HDMI option for sound.
I even made the TV my primary monitor, hoping that might make a difference - but nope.

    This is very strange.

I havent tried it with Win7 specifically yet, but it should be like Vista.

There should be an HDMI audio output device... if its not there, then it could be drivers (or the drivers for Win7 are not available yet).

Yeah, maybe it is a Win 7 issue.
I know I installed all the Win 7 drivers and apps when I setup the notebook. I just now tried de-installing and re-installing the RealTek audio drivers and that didn't help either.

I've tried everything I can think of.

So, as a work around I could use the digital out jack. Can anyone tell me what kind of a connector this requires? I know that S/PDIF can be either optical (TOSlink) or regular coaxial. But, it looks like its a normal phono jack? A 3-way? The manual doesn't specify.

the SPDIF on these Clevo notebook are coaxial. (you need a mono 3.5mm to mono RCA)

I went over it many times.

You can get what you need from monoprice.com for less than $5. Though, I get audio through spdif and HDMI.

"Realtek Digital" is the HDMI output. For some programs you need to specify the sound device in their options as well.

OK, so I am somewhat of an idiot
5482741 was correct. I was expecting to an HDMI sound option listed because that's what my Vista based home theater PC has. I selected the RealTek as the default and then I also had to disable the speakers. Then bingo, I finally had sound going out to the TV!

    Thanks for all your help.
