I have tried 4 different mouses, and they all work on other computers. Two of them were wireless and the other two were wired. I tried each of them in all four of my USB ports and nothing is working. So what the heck is wrong?

i can't play any of my shooters worth crap without them.

    Heres my specs:
    - Sager NP2096
    - Windows vista Home Premium
    - 4 gig ram
    - 2.5 ghz
    - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
    - 64 - bit Operating system
    - 8600 Nvidia Geforce

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

I recommend to go to your Device Manager and make sure your USB Root Hubs and Controllers are ok. And then check to see if the BIOS has USB input devices enabled.

If they are, then I would recommend to Uninstall all USB Root Hubs, then restart the PC. This will force Windows to re-detect and re-configure the USB ports.

BIOS: usually to get into the BIOS, you would have to hit a key when you just turn on the computer and its booting... you see it says something like:
    - "Press F2 to enter Setup"

DO NOT WORRY ABOUT YOUR BIOS. I already went through the manual, no USB options in there.

Device Manager: to get to Device Manager, you go to your System Properties (in the Control Panel)
    - then you see all the hardware listed
    - scroll down to see if any has an exclamation point (!) or question mark (?).
    - if there are none, then go down to the "Universal Serial Bus" (USB) section, and expand the selection by double clicking "Universal Serial Bus" or clicking once on the plus sign (+) on its left.
    - to uninstall a device: right click on the USB Root Hub and choose Uninstall... do that for all.

Then Restart you computer, Windows will then detect them again and re-configure them... now try your mouse.

    ok thanks.

So i did what you said and this is what happend. i uninstalled everything...i could have figured that out myself...but i'm lazy. lol

i restarted. and my mouse has it's colors and stuff. cause it's an optical mouse it glows red, and it does that. it just does not move the pointer. with any of the ports. it even instals the mouses driver software and is succesfull at that... o.0

Make sure you are using the mouse on a good surface, non-reflect or non-red is best.

Have you tried to disable your touchpad first... I think there might be a software conflict.

Or look in the Mouse Option in Control Panel.

the touchpad does nto have a disable option for me in the device manager, and neither does the mouse section in Control Panel.

and i've tried a bunch of different surfaces that i've used before with my mouses. I used to use external mouses on this computer. and one day it just randomly stopped working after buyign a new mouse because my old one broke.

Try to disable the Touchpad in the Device Manager (under Mouse and other pointing devices)
    - right click and choose Disable

You're right, I forgot you cannot disable the mouse, only other components like network adapters.

Try uninstalling the Elantech software and drivers (probably from Control Panel > Add/Remove programs)

Is there any software for the mouse?... try installing those as well.

They do not have an option to uninstall that in the add/remove.

No, when i bought the mouse it was jsut a mouse. and i plugged it in, it installed the new driver software, and it glowed and everythign. but wouldn't/won't move.

i'm begining to think the only option i have left is reformating?

I do not think re-formatting might help... even though I am sure there is a software conflict.

Contact your vendor and ask them about the issue first, they might have a quick fix for it.

FINALLY!! I was at school today and there was someone that had the same mouse i used to have that i broke. (i think i mentioned that earlier) and it worked!! I then went and bought my same old one. and it works. i have no idea what the issue was...maybe the software that the mouse installed blocked other mice from being used.

I'm a little Johnny-come-lately, but did anything show up in your event logs when you plugged in the mice that wouldn't work, particularly the one that lit up, but wouldn't move the cursor?

It keeps track of certain kinds of events that occur on your system, like generating warnings when there's a device problem, or recording certain data if there's an application crash.

It's under the Administrative Tools item in the control panel.

Did anything show up in the event logs; e.g., it should have recorded an event for installing the driver, and if there were any issues with the installation, that might have also generated a warning entry to the log.

same problem for me (M860TU). My mouse works only at the USBport on which I had connected it primarily. Other mice only at the same or not at all (Different Logitech, Razor,...). A Microsoft bluetooth laser mouse works certainly. XP SP3. Reinstalled the chipset driver, scanned the system files (sfc /scannow), without result. After an insertion the device manager is active, tries to install the mouse. Then the mouse works a few seconds. But when the symbol of the device installation in the taskbar disappears, the mouse illuminates only without function. No problem with other USBdevices (printer,...)
