This thread is totally inspired by usmc1488's success on his Area51 M17x.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...area-51-m17x-dual-gtx280m-project-thread.html

Right now,I just have two MXM2.1 cards at hand. One is 9800mgtx(112sp/1GB vram) pulled from a D901C rev6.x. The other is a non-branded FX3600M(64sp/512MB vram)

Both of them are G92 chips and p398 boards.

I put 9800MGTX,the more powerful one in the daughter(Master) bay,FX3600M the weaker one in the parant(Slave) bay.
Note1:FX3600M has no SLI foot. That's why I had to run non-bridged SLI.
Note2:My D901C came as a sager NP9261 with one single 8700mgt and the second VGA heatsink and fan is lost.So I had to buy a X8100 VGA heatsink which is used for MHD5870. It was slightly modified to fit my machine.

Then I downloaded the vbios from usmc1488's post.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...al-gtx280m-project-thread-13.html#post7592838
One named 9800m.rom in that zip file which is the stock vbios of 9800mgt on Area51 M17x.

I flashed both my cards after changing its clocks and voltage setting.

Both cards are recognized as 9800MGT.

Then the video driver was uninstalled by using driver sweeper under safe mode before reinstalling it.

After that I could see Set SLI and PhysX configuaration in Nvidia control panel. But SLI could not be turned on at this point.

As FX3600M and 9800MGTX have different amount of vram, a varm match should be performed first:
    How to Enable Coolbits

Finally, SLI was turned on. I ran 3dmark06 and got 15000 points. That is a reasonable score.

For comparison:A single OCed 9800mgtx(flashed as GTX260M) with the same driver.

    good! try vantage...

Both cards seem to run at its own profile.

That is why I set FX3600M at 650MHz while 9800MGTX at just 550MHz

    omg...just like hybrid sli

What I thought was flashing MSI 570m to clevo 580m as both are P1314 boards.

SLI needs vbios support while 570M vbios seems no such support.

想SLI的话必须都刷成vbios支持SLI的485M(都是P1044板子)

    -------------------------------edit----------------------------------
I was wrong. Q4000M SLI just needs particular SLI cable.

    Add vantage benchmark.

One 9800MGTX OCed to 260M clock.

    OCed FX3600M and 9800MGTX SLI
(Should be of the same performance of dual FX3600MSLI@650MHz/900MHz/1625MHz)

so 9800m gtx close to 64sp......

From usmc1488's post, we know that stock MXM2.1 280M vbios dosn't support SLI.

    But M980NU MXM3.0 280M do support SLI.

I checked these two vbios. Both have the same device id 060A which is checked by driver when installing.

So I think SLI is under both driver and vbios control.

Bought a broken GTX280m MXM v3.0 then took it and FX3600M to a laptop repairing workshop.

After BGA reballing and resoldering for a whole afternoon, there came a GTX280M MXM v2.1.

Genuine GTX280M MXM2.1 has 1GB samsung vRAM and 180-10398-XXXX- A04 board while this one only has 512MB hynix vRAM and 180-10398-XXXX- A03 board.

    Vantage benchmark.

    I bought two broken 280m MXM3.0 actually.
Only one survived the BGA procedure.

My next step is to find another G92B chip to replace my 9800mgtx's A2 chip.

Finally got my 9800MGTX BGA resoldered to a GTX280M MXM 2.1.
When entering Vista, as soon as the login GUI appeared, the laptop screen turned black.
I plugged in an external monitor to check, both screens post at the same time, which was quite weird.

I assume that issue is caused the incompatibility between 9800mgt driver and new 280M GPU.
So I flashed both cards back to GTX280M vbios.
After reinstalling driver, that issue is fixed, no black screen anymore.
However, SLI is disabled as well. It is impossible to form SLI using GTX280M MXM2.1 vbios.

After a long time searching and testing, I figured out one solution.
    1.Flash both cards to 9800MGT.
2.Install 9800MGT driver and plug in an external monitor to enable SLI .
3.Turn off NVIDIA Display Driver Service in service manager.

    And it works.
However, one flaw remains -- any time I start the Nvidia control panel, built-in screen turns black until I plug in an external monitor.

    Here is the vantage benchmark.
Seems little improvement comparing with 9800MGTX and GTX280M SLI.
Anyway, I got rid of those defective G92 A2 chips in the end.

so, as i understand, the best chip with which the 9800m gtx can be resoldered and stay fully functional is gtx 280m chip?
and one more question, where to buy those chips?

So if I understand this correctly, you transplanted the core of one GPU onto the card for another? So could that technically be a solution (a complicated, expensive, and risky one of course) for the incompatibility of the G73SW with all traditional MXM cards? For instance, could you throw a 485m core onto the G73's 460m card? Probably just a pipe dream, but I had to ask. :p

only for pin to pin compatiable one
    gf100-gf110/gf104-gf114/gf106-gf116..............
    460m is gf106, so 485m gf104 core ofcourse impossible....560m's gf116 maybe, or 660m?'s 28nm die shrink core(not sure)

I have a D90xC rev6 with 2 9800gtx's. Which 260gtx bios did you flash to your 9800gtx? Also, what is the difference between the 9800 and the fx3700 and where can I find it's bios file?
