It's broken, and I can't believe I just noticed today...

I've always used speakers at home and never used headphones. Today, I went to the University and plugged in my headphones and discovered only the right ear piece works. If I push the jack part to the left, both ears will work, but that's only if I hold it there. I tried pushing it to the point where both work and holding it there for a while, but it's still broken.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

My headphones just died a bit back, and it had the same issues you described. But once I bought a new pair, everything was fine. Try checking the headphones before blaming the computer. But yeah, the green jack of death is a big problem around here.

Yup same for me. Two of the ports on my audio jacks don't work any more. I have to keep constant pressure on them. So I just went ahead and bought the Creative Xfi card. Its tons better anyways.

Yea this sure is annoying. I'm going to RMA this laptop for a motherboard change, then I'll re-solder the POS myself. I'm tired of this crap.

It's not sagers fault per se...Although they should be able to have a pretty good go at clevo if enough ppl have a go at them...

I'm going to be purchasing an 860ru tomorrow. The GJOD only affects the NP5793 right?

GJOD , now there`s something you don`t hear every day :D
I would imagine the 860TU to be a bit better in this department.
But since most of you guys have not tried Creative`s USB and Exp-Slot sollutions, you don`t know what you`re missing.
The USB Live! 24 bit is amazing to say the least, and the xi-fi is even better than that.

Get the xi-fi, it's so much better than anything else. You won`t regret it, and it also boosts performance a bit.

Did you ever do that review? :D

I went ahead and bought a x-fi expresscard, it should arrive tomorrow or the next day, everything I've read about it says it works great with vista and sounds awesome so I'm quite excited!

Darn man, I almost did, but the speakers I use at the place where I live are dead, and won`t be able to let you guys know much of a big deal.

The headphones however are pretty good.
I`d go about it like this.
-onboard sound with headphones : 6/10
-USB creative sound with headphones: 7.5/10
    -xi-fi creative sound with headphones: 9.5/10 :D

I`ll buy a pair of speakers soon and will do that review too.

Wow, so the expresscard is that much better than the usb, eh? Glad I went with it then :p

I got the (stupidly separate) 5.1/7.1 connector as well for my logitech x-540 speakers. Hopefully I'll have surround sound again after about 6 months of 'virtual matrix' due to my headphone jack dying and only being able to use the front speaker inputs :/

    Yep,it`s much better.
If the USB one had a good bass, imagine that the xi-fi boosts it without a compromise, no distorsion, loud volume etc.
I don`t count the USB one out though, it`s still much better than the onboard one.

Ok, so I got my card today (just ordered it last thursday, with holiday and everything; so much for july 15th delivery date haha).

All I can say is, woah.

I still have to wait for the 5.1 adapter to show up, but in the meantime, even with the headphones, woah.

Two thumbs up! Now I just gotta make sure I don't break the end of the expresscard off on accident...

Yay! I just ordered my X-Fi and Overnighted it so I'll get it the day after tomorrow.

I'm using an NP5790 and my Headphone jack is broken as well. It doesn't work with speakers or anything so I use one of the other jacks; They're not as good quality and don't get as loud.

As for where I got mine,
http://www.costcentral.com/proddetail/Creative_Sound_Blaster_X_Fi_Xtreme_Audio_Notebook/70SB071000000/N07287/. I wish i could have gotten it off Creative's website but they were all sold out so I just got it off this website. =/

If that link doesn't work go to www.costcentral.com and in the search bar (top right hand corner) type in: 70SB071000000

That should take you straight to it

I just got mine through an Amazon reseller, bundled with the 5.1/7.1 connector:

    http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Expr...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1215496176&sr=1-1

The card itself came from ANTonline; they could have packed it a little better (they put it in one of those manila folders with bubbles in them thingies) and the box was a little squished but everything was ok so *shrugs*.

The connect was sent directly from amazon. I should get that (hopefully) tomorrow!

dang, its still 70 something bucks. Isn't this the same creative that shut down this nice programmer trying to write drivers for vista for them?
