After seeing the gunk in my M570RU, I decided to go ahead and clean my Sony.. here is what I found...

Cover off - you can already see how grimy the fan is.

Almost completely plugged with gunk - the CPU heatsink.

The heatsink rinsed out and restored to its original splendor.

Fan after scrubbing it for 10 minutes with moistened q-tips.

    Cleaned bottom plate

    Everything like new - voila!

    It is TEH SHINEH!!

This is the dirt that came out of it, not counting what came out of the heatsink:

    :O ...ewwww!!!

Wow! How long did it take for that stuff to accumulate? I cracked my vaio open for the first time last May (about 4 years since I bought it) and found almost nothing (of, course, it is a Z1A :( ).

Almost exactly 1 year now... but then I chain-smoke, live in a dusty room I also sleep in, and run my boxes about 14-24 hours a day.

I suppose that'll do it; since I don't "qualify" under any of those criteria (my smoking is limited to strictly outdoors - self-imposed if anyone cares :D ).
