I've had nothing but trouble with this laptop since I bought it around April. In hindsight, I should have returned it, but I guess I was too lazy. Now I'm having another problem that used to happen every once in awhile and is now happening everyday quite a few times a day.

It keeps shutting down on me! Here's what usually happens, I walk away from it and eventually the display turns off. Then it starts making all this noise and the fans start blowing violently. Then it turns off. It also does this when I shut the lid. I checked the battery settings and everything seems fine. I want to know if there's some kind of log I can check to see what's doing it, but I don't know how to get one if there is. I don't get any error messages or anything! It just shuts down like I had restarted it on my own.

I hope someone can help me. Please and thank you!

Have you contacted Sager support? They make take a day or 2 to respond, but my experience with them has been good.

Have you updated the drivers, done a clean OS install?

Sounds like cooling issues. Download Speedfan or HWinfo64 to check your temperatures.

Thank you both for your replies!

south_valhalla: I should do that, but I haven't yet. I was hoping it was something minor or simple that I could fix myself. I need my laptop and I'm afraid they'll want me to send it back. I keep various drivers, like the graphics driver & internet associated drivers up to date, but are there other drivers that need updating? I check the Sager site often and didn't see any other real important ones. I haven't done a clean OS install. To be honest I wouldn't know how to. I have reset/refreshed the PC that sets it back to its default state (while keeping my files) but that's all I've done. And it was done pretty recently because of another problem I was having.

Danishblunt: I really don't think it's a heating problem. I have the optional upgraded cooling system and this thing hardly ever even gets warm. But I can still check. It might be hard though because when it starts happening it's too late to run the program,. The computer will shut down.

start a game, run MSI afterburner, set it up so it shows the temperatures while you play a game or so. The whole thing sounds like a behavior it would do when the mosfets overheat. I'm pretty sure this is heat related, so you might not even see an overheat on the GPU, but who knows.

Can you ask your support if you're allowed to reseat the heatsink? If you get the permission, you might want to look up a guide and reseat and repaste the heatsink.

Danishblunt: Thank you for your reply! This is embarrassing seeing as it is a gaming laptop, but I don't have any games on it. I think the most demanding programs I use (which are always open) are Photoshop CC and Illustrator CC. So, you think it's a heat issue that's just not showing up on the monitors or do you think my computer just mistakingly thinks it's a heat issue? Like I said, this thing barely feels warm. However, I did suspect something with the cooling system when the fans started blasting. I might have to call support and if I do I'll ask about the heatsink. I did download HWinfo64, but I'm not familiar with it. I need to look at a guide or tutorial, then I could tell you what it's reading for the tempuratutre.

Meaker@Sager: Thank you! DUH!!! I completely forgot about that. If nothing pans out here I'll have to.

ole!!!: Thank you for your imput. I think it sounds right too. It makes total sense. It's just that this is the coolest running laptop I've ever had (and I've had more than a few). With my old ones I could feel it when it got hot, but I never feel heat radiating off this one.

We have some smart guys on staff :)

I would disable all sleep settings and see if it still does it.

Interesting, well it shouldn't be a heat issue then, if it is, then you need to repaste and reseat ASAP. Can you check your tempeatures while using photoshop etc. just in case?
