Would you guys recommend to take the dead pixel policy?
Entirely your choice of course. It's 30£ for peace of mind. Still, I didn't do it, for three reasons:
1) these last years, LCD production methods have improved a lot
2) if you take a WUXGA screen, a dead pixel is really difficult to notice; there are almost two million pixels on the screen!
3) a dead pixel can occur just as easily AFTER one month than IN that month.
So all in all, I'm taking my chances
Also, there is significant price difference between T9600 (£205) vs P9500 (£109). I am inclined to go with P9500 as it is the newer processor which is more energy efficient right? Would you agree that the additional 0.3 ghz is not really worth £100?
Not worth it, imo. Processor hertz isn't that important in most tasks. Plus, as Chaz said in another thread, "a couple of years down the line it won't matter if your processor has that couple of 0.1 ghz difference or not"
If i get these points cleared up, I'll most probably order this weekend! =)
Oh, and forgot to ask, does anybody know what the laser etching looks like? Is it nice/worth it??
Dont really know. It's probably nice though (if you look at how stunning their paint jobs are, the laser should be nice as well)
And lastly, what is the Intel Turbo Memory upgrade available? Anything useful?
Nobody really knows yet, since it's a new version of Turbo Memory. The previous version was useless in terms of performance, although it did boost battery life by 10-15% in some situations.
But I still took it, because:
1) it's not that much money (30£ or so). Worst case scenario, you can't really have gone wrong that much.
2) I'd like to have measurable battery life
3) Most importantly, you can't upgrade it yourself later! I mean, you can, technically, but it will void your warranty.
4) I'm only putting 1x2 GB DDR3 RAM in my system, because it's ridiculously expensive. 2 GB is borderline in Vista though, so if the Turbo Memory helps to compensate, that's win-win
If you already have 4 GB of RAM, and/or battery life is not that important to you, don't buy it.
