Today my parents phoned and talked to Eurocom about the M860TU. They said they wouldn't match xoticPC's price so I guess I can't buy from them. My next best option is Pro-Star because they have the door to door program. They agreed to match xoticPC's price. The total came to 2559 USD. That is around 2642.68 CAD. Now this is a lot of money to blow on my part. Especially since I can get a PC for $2000 that outperforms this thing. But I love portability and low power. I like power in a small case.
Now, I have 2 problems:
Say I receive the notebook, and something is wrong with it. A huge scratch or a dead pixel. That is shipping and customs I have to pay to repair it and then send back to me. Like $400 back and forth. I really can't afford that. I have a part-time job and am in high school.
My next idea was to buy the 7811 FX. This computer has some really nice stuff, but it's like $1200 USD. That is a really nice price but something really tells me this think is really cheap quality. Like as if I pressed to hard on the pad to see fi there was flex it would crack. That kind of idea.
I need your opinion guys. Is this SAGER worth the money? Technology is always changing and I really want to know if I should be spending near 3 grand for this.
Please help!

The sager is worth it. Especially if it is something that is required to furfil your computing needs. Portability and low power. I need to ask, what is the main purpose of the laptop and what applications will you be using?
-
You shouldn't have to pay customs when sending a system you've already bought back (and forth) for repairs - just the shipping (and maybe not even that if you purchase an extended warranty that covers shipping costs as well).
-
go ahead for gateway 7811 FX

I just like to know that I have a 15 inch notebook, that is packed with very powerful conponents and is considered one of the fastest 15.4 inch gaming notebooks in the world. On the other hand, the Gateway is much cheaper, but it has that feeling to it that that chassis will like crack when I touch it. Like a plastic toy or something. -
). For the customs, if the stuff is declared correctly, you shouldn't have to pay taxes on the laptop for repairs since you already paid the taxes on the laptop for import.
And yeah, Sager worth it but the Gateway seems good also. -
Sorry, in my opinion, gateway builds are bad. Buttons fly off within the first six months of owning the laptop. That was a laptop just a year ago and I doubt they've improved since then. That cheap build you are feeling, that's going to get worse.
Maybe you could be interested in the Sager 2096, just as powerful components, excellent battery life, and a very good graphics card. Most of all, very good price. -
-
I love it. It suits my needs completely. Especially with the GPU powered, 64 bit focused Creative Suite 4 coming out soon.
Honestly, I would have taken the Sager 2093 if it had a firewire port back in Feburary, but when I read up on this machine and the promises that the Montevina processor would bring (in terms of high def. editing) I decided to wait for this. The wait was worth it. All the power I need in a compact design. Carry the notebook around is not a task.
In fact, I take the oppertunity now to bring the notebook along for presentations and previews for clients eagerly. The laptop briefcase that PCMW ships with it only accentuates a greater level of sophistication.
However, its what you want, and what you need, and how much you can afford it by?
I'd highly recommend the 2096 if you are not getting into video editing at all or playing Crysis at max resolutions. Its just going to be a huge waste of power if you get the m860tu and unneccessary compromise in battery life.
But whatever you do, be mindful of Gateway. If the chassis is really feeling cheap. Don't get it. -
The Gateway chasis is really good quality, not the best but still pretty good the Gateway will perform just as well, best bang for your buck!
The screen is beautiful and you will love all the extra space, 17 inch laptops are not really that much bigger than 15.4 inch when you put them right next to each other.
Don't listen to the guy that says Gateways are bad I have had the first series FX-6831 and the thing still looks and works brand new, I did upgrade the CPU with a T9300 and now the system really kicks ***, obviously the guy is ignorant of the new Gateway products that have come out.
It's on sale at Bestbuy for $1249.99 US.

If paranoia is getting the better of you, buy the Gateway from a local retailer. If you can live with a minor risk of "dead pixels or a scratch" then
order the Sager. RJTech delivered mine free of any defects, scratches or dead pixels, not that they had anything to do with the latter.
The specs on the Gateway aren't half bad and will play most games fine plus with the money you save, you could invest it or just save it, wait 2 years and when the current (todays) Gateway is outdated, buy the (then) current Gateway that is of similiar calibre and have a new machine with a new warranty all the while still playing current (of the time) games.
This plan provides that Gateway will still be offering quasi gaming systems
at the same price point this one is. -
I think you're more suited to the 2096. You don't spend this kind of money, unless you're already serious about the types of games that need the raw power that's provided.
I don't see you needing more than a 9600mGT; the rest will be wasted with your needs. -
just get the asus g50v-a1, NBR just officially reviewed it, it was my first bet but i went with ocz whitebook look at my sig for info... cuz yea DUAL GFX BABY
-
Whatever you do, don't buy the gateway. Yes, the individuals here are talking about it being great and strong and yada dada.
But I'm going on what you are telling me, and what you are telling me is that the Gateway build is feeling flimsy and weak, and from that I'm warning you that is how the Gateway laptop purchased by a member of my company felt and within six months keys were flying off and the left touchpad button was unpressable because it caved in.
I know you want to save money, but do you really want that? Is it worth the headache? Stay away from the Gateway, for your own sanity.
Go with the Sager 2096, put the extra money towards a warranty with some pixel protection. Its a smarter choice. -
I don't need the performance of the 8660. But I want something that can run my game smoothley without any FPS. My Radeon 8500 on my PC is fine, but it lags when I play 3 vs. 3 and 4 vs. 4 with people.

The NP2096 suit you best. Don't go spend 3000$ on a laptop if you will play low-end games! go with np2096.
-
Yeah, check MrPresident's review on the NP2096. This laptop packs some power.

Now or never!
