Man - it sucks to be without a crazy gaming notebook - now I have to look up to all you guys with your cool laptops![]()
What laptop is next? Wherever the wind takes me I guess...
It's been a ride I mean honestly - i've been through tons of laptops in JUST 2 years. Like...
Laptop I got when I first joined this forum was the HPDV2500T - I still have that one - but I wanted more - so I got a M1530 - gave it back to dell - but then I wanted something more for gaming so I got the M1730 with dual 8800gtx - but then I thought that was too big (and returned it) - then I got the Gateway P6860FX - but then thought that was ... not powerful enough for a 17" so I returned it...only to purchase the PCMW edge a couple months ago. Now that that is sold - i'm left with my dv2500T - right back where I started.
Tsk tsk. What a rollercoaster ride. I must say though - out of all the forums that i've been to on these boards (hp/dell/this one/gateway) the one i've had the most fun and excitement on has been this one.![]()
Now the big question - i have 3 choices
1) Just be happy with my little 14" hp
OR
2) Buy the OCZ Whitebook and feel what gaming supremacy is for the next couple years (upgrading to dual 4870's in a couple months)
OR
3) Buy a desktop and be done with high end laptops.
Personally - i just finished law school and plan to travel a lot with the firm I joined so I don't think hauling a 17" gaming notebook around is ideal. The HP will do just fine or I might need to get something like a MSI wind or something.
What I would like is a cheap nokia n95-4 - if anybody's selling one let me know.
I think my wife is trying to ween me off of laptops too. She's gotten so cheezed off at the fact that eery time a new laptop comes - in a couple months it goes. She thinks i'm crazy![]()
Thing is - I will specialize in computer law cases - that's my academic strength so computers will always be very important to me and having the latest tech will always be way cool.
oh what to do...

Leveno .T400, powerful, 14 inch, light, 6-9 hour battery life. Will not be the ultimate in gaming supremacy but it will give you an excellent balance between work and play.
Honestly, that whitebook is going be a pain to carry around and that desktop is going to gather dust (unless you are ok with only gaming when you are at home). Besides the EDGE, its the next best option I see for you. -
See- thing is - I already have a 14" HP
So anything else is really just icing on the cake so to speak. -
Well I'd suggest the desktop. That can be upgraded so you won't have to sell the whole system every couple of months. It will also save your wife's sanity.
-
-
I think you should join some sort of support group, honestly
Get counseling and figure out why you like to throw money away and why you keep buying large notebooks when you "need a netbook for mobility rather than a 15.4' college gaming laptop."
-
-
But yeh, buying and selling the laptops so much, what's the reasoning behind it bro? -
You have the opportunity to get a desktop, what is your problem?
4870*2 +4870*2 is calling you for $700+chassis+monitor+keyboard+mouse -
zomg, even if you refunded/sold these laptops, I think you've lost some money in the shipping process... Anyway, I'm suggesting (just a suggestion) maybe you could take a look at the .Macbook Pro since its very portable for the power it have (just don't look at the price tag
)
Nokia N95? The N82 is selling at around $390 and it has a better camera. Only thing missing is the media buttons (but I can live with that), bigger/brighter screen and an IR port (since you can use the phone as a remote control for the TV). Also, N79, N85 and N96 are coming soon
. Just get a bluetooth keyboard and you have your pocket PC
-
lol. nothing was physically wrong with any of the laptops i've had. And about losing money, I came out 1k richer after selling the gateways (I had two, a p6831 + 6860) so that just about evens out any costs associated with shipping back to vendors and what not.
But yeah - I have no desktop - i'm looking at whether I should get the OCZ whitebook with dual 4870's or just get a desktop and create a killer gaming/work station. What would you guys do? -
ArmageddonAsh Mangekyo Sharingan
im thinking about replacing my 9262 with a OCZ Whitebook
-
Yeah I hear ya. if you get it soon, then get it with just one 3870 so you can get the dual 4870's in 2 months when they come out
-
You should make that up with yourself. If it was me I would go for the laptop because i travel alot. But im not you so maybe you should ask yourself that question
Do you really need to carry it around? Do you watch movies in your bed? etc... I can get 4 times the power for less money by going stationary, but since i travel i have no choice
-

Maybe I'm the only one like this but since I got my laptop, I never use my desktop anymore since I'm using my dekstop 22'' with the laptop. Only case I use the desktop is to use large files or torrents since everything is on that desktop. I just prefer having everything at the same place, except if I had a netbook where I wouldn't store any file there.

Just picked up a DELL...wondering if I did the right thing....
-- XPS 730 Desktop(WATER COOLED): Intel Core 2 Q9450 (12MB,2.66GHz, 1333FSB) Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium
--500GB NCQ SERIAL ATA (7200 RPM)
--Dual 512MB GDDR4 ATI Radeon HD3870
-- Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic
-- 4 GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz (4 DIMMs)
those are the specs - comes with a lot of other stuff too that I didn't list.
All for $1330 shipped (it was on sale) Is that a good buy? I plan to upgrade to a 4870x2 in the future so I hope other people have had success with that...
ANy thoughts on the system are appreciated.....I still have the ability to drop this purchase and stick with the ocz whitebook....which will cost roughly 1900..which I have set aside...but still...should I is the question... -
How did you manage that?!?!
-
-
No, you can put that together yourself for around $800-900 (well not water cooling). I was serious about the psych help
I tend to run away from water cooled, but ymmv. It's a good buy for a dell; like what, 40-45% off? -
-
when the gateways went on sale some people bought 200+ units and put x9000's in them and sold them on ebay for 2k easy. that's MAD proffit. -
(Pentium M 2GHz, 2GB RAM, 100GB HDD, Mobility Radeon X700) -
-
wait up a sec - you can't build this setup for 8-9 hundred at all -->
Dell XPS 730 Watercooled = case with cooling would be $300
1K Watt powersuply = $200
Q9450 = $250
790i motherboard = $250
Dual 3870 = $200
4GB 1066= 80
500GB 7200 RPM = 70
Vista Premium = 100
=1,450 in total. And I paid 1330 Shipped. Those prices are ALL from newegg. And I have a one year warranty and everything is TOGETHER already. Don't need to setup anything.
and - without watercooling it would be around 200 less or whatever which would be 1250 at least....
So i'm still wondering about whether I should just get the OCZ whitebook or stick with this.... -
Well, maybe I will keep it as a backup computer! -
-
In any case, sounds like you got close to your small netbook needs! XD -
lol yeah yeah yeah
figuring out a way to get the ocz...hrmmmm -
why don't try 13'' lg p310?
-
Nice deal on the XPS.
Now: Officially without an "EDGE/M860TU"
